In the last 24 hours rumours had been circulating that more WWE releases were to be announced only days after the recent releases that included WWE superstars, Wade Barrett, Damian Sandow, Hornswoggle, Zeb Colter, El Torito, Santino Marello, Cameron and Alex Riley from last week.
Over Twitter, Cynthia Heenan sent out this tweet:
Within hours of this tweet, it was confirmed and WWE mainstay Steve “The Brooklyn Brawler” Lombardi was released from the promotion but unlike the other Superstars whose releases was announced, his wasn’t.
Steve Lombardi had been part of the WWE for the past 30 years starting off as a wrestler whose duties was to enhance talent, then during 1989 he was known as “The Brooklyn Brawler”, during that time even until the ECW revival he has faced The Rock, Kurt Angle, Undertaker, Ultimate Warrior and many other well known Superstars during those years.
Even though he was mostly known to fans as being “The Brooklyn Brawler”, he was also wrestling under the name of Doink and Abe “Knuckleball” Schwartz during the 90’s.
Afterwards he was working as a Road Agent and most recently a member of the backstage production team but he was also known to be a very important voice in the evaluation of incoming talent entering the WWE.
There has been no word on why WWE has released Lombardi and with websites as well as fans questioning this, no doubt a statement will be released soon.
