WWE announced today the first dates of their upcoming Asian tour.
The company will be in Singapore for a RAW live event on June 28th at the Singapore Indoor Stadium. A few days later, WWE will be back at the legendary Sumo Hall in Tokyo, Japan, for 2 dates, on Friday, June 30th and Saturday, July 1st.
WWE last live event appareance in Singapore was in July 2015. However, a few weeks ago WWE talent scouts were in the country to scrutinize independent promotions and in doing so visited different Asian countries over the last few months in order to prepare an possible Asian Championship Tournament.
As far as Japan is concerned, WWE regularly comes around the same dates every year. In 2015, a WWE Network special event called “Beast in the East” was broadcasted live from Tokyo, seeing former NJPW sensation Finn Bàlor become NXT Champion.
Last year, the presence of Japanese sensations Asuka and Shinsuke Nakamura, alongside former Bullet Club members AJ Styles, Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson, made the fans turn wild during the two Tokyo dates. Last december, the NXT brand made her first steps in Asuka’s hometown, Osaka and received tremendous reponse from Japanese fans.
The interesting fact about this year’s dates is the crossing of WWE usual Japanese invasion with the NJPW first ever USA stints. As WWE try to expand in Asia, NJPW is doing the same, except their invasion is in the USA.
Earlier this year, New Japan Pro Wrestling announced that her first ever American live events will take place on July 1st and 2nd in Long Beach, California. Proving her intention to expand and become an internationaly recognized brand.
The incredible success of “Wrestle Kingdom 11” all around the world showed the true competition NJPW could develop in WWE home country.
