WWE announced today that John Cena will have the honor of inducting to the WWE Hall of Fame his first ever opponent on WWE main roster stage, Olympic gold medalist Kurt Angle.

During 2002, Angle routinely held open invitation challenges on Smackdown. On June 27, a young John Cena accepted his challenge, losing to Angle after a roll-up pin, and made his first steps into WWE main roster. The beginning of his rise to Superstardom.

Angle and Cena would cross paths again many times until Angle’s departure in 2006. The two feuded for the WWE Championship during the last months of 2005, with 3 consecutive PPV matches at Unforgiven, Taboo Tuesday, and Survivor Series in which Angle failed to win the belt.

WWE Hall of Fame Class of 2017 also includes Diamond Dallas Page, The Rock’n Roll Express, Beth Phoenix, Theodore Long, “Ravishing” Rick Rude and former football player Eric Le Grand as recipient of the Warrior Award.

WWE Hall of Fame Induction Ceremony will take place on Friday, March 31, at the Amway Center in Orlando, Florida, during Wrestlemania 33 week-end. It will be broadcasted live on WWE Network.
