Following his main event match with Kazuchika Okada, Katsuyori Shibata reportedly passed out backstage at the Ryogoku Sumo Hall and subsequently was rushed to hospital.
Shibata was conscious throughout and following a medical examination, was diagnosed with a subdural hematoma. A subdural hematoma is a serious condition where blood collects between the skull and the surface of the brain.
The hospital operated on Shibata and NJPW have today announced that he is now recovering following a successful operation. You can read the press release from New Japan below;
