The die-hard fans will remember the name of Rosey, “The Hurricane” Shane Helms tag team partner. The most recent fans will more easily relate him as Roman Reigns’s older brother. But everybody will be saddened to read that Matt Anoa’i passed away yesterday, 10 days after his 47th birthday.
His family and WWE, in a common statement, are “mourning the loss of Sika’s son, Matt aka Rosey, due to an untimely death”. As a member of the Samoan legendary family, Rosey was WWE Hall of Famer Sika’s son, Roman Reigns”s brother and a cousin of many WWE superstars like The Rock, Tamina Snuka, Rikishi, the late Yokozuna and Umaga, The Usos and Nia Jax.
After training in the family wrestling school, he started his career in 1995 in the family promotion. He then appeared in ECW and in Japanese promotion Frontier Martial-Arts Wrestling with his cousin Eddie Fatu, known as Jamal and later as Umaga.
They debuted in WWE in 2002 as the 3-Minute Warning, a duo of villainous savages. They were hired as Eric Bischoff’s enforcers and were attacking random wrestlers every week to entertain him. As regular competitors of Raw’s tag team division, they savagely attacked many wrestlers as well as non-wrestlers, until Jamal was released in 2003.
He then started a team with The Hurricane, who discovered his superhero potential and wanted to train him to become one. At Backlash 2005, they defeated the french team La Résistance to become the World Tag Team Champions.
After his release in 2006, he competed for All Japan Pro Wrestling and many independent promotions in the USA. Over the last few years, he was running, with his father Sika, Epic Championship Wrestling, a Florida-based promotion.
