AXS TV, official New Japan Pro Wrestling broadcaster in the USA, announced yesterday that the first night of the upcoming NJPW G1 Special in the USA events will be aired live on July 1st . The second night, which takes place on July 2, will air on July 7 in a four-hour showcase.
It will be NJPW first-ever US live shows, in 45-year history, and first-ever AXS TV live broadcast of a NJPW event, since the beginning of their collaboration in 2015. A special team of announcers was chosen for these nights, with WWE Hall of Famer Jim Ross and former NJPW veteran Josh Barnett commenting the action right from ringside.
“The timing for the first-ever U.S. event and live TV broadcast is perfect—the weekly NJPW television show on AXS TV is a hit and the tickets for the G1 Special in the USA sold out within hours. We are excited to see how fans respond to this historic live broadcast.” Naoki Sugabayashi, Chairman of the Board of NJPW, added being live on US TV “marks a major breakthrough for the Japanese pro-wrestling promoters.”
NJPW also announced the G1 US Special is set to feature NJPW Superstars Cody, The Young Bucks Mike and Nick Jackson, Kenny Omega, Kazuchika Okada, Hiroshi Tanahashi and Tetsuya Naito. More wrestlers and official match listings will be announced soon.
These G1 Special shows of July 1 and 2, which take place in Long Beach, California, will also be the arena of a two-night robin-round tournament to determine the first-ever NJPW United States Champion.
