It couldn’t have been a shorter statement: “Global Force Wrestling has indefinitely suspended Alberto El Patron, effective immediately, until the investigation is resolved following a recent incident in Orlando, Florida.” After the recent incident we related the details of these last days, and with the names “alcohol”, “cocaine” and “beating” quoted in this story, this announcement is not a surprise.
Global Force Wrestling has suspended Alberto El Patron until the investigation into him for domestic battery is resolved. But prior to suspending him, GFW had noted that they were taking the incident seriously and that they would fully investigate it and cooperate with law enforcement.
El Patron was detained at the Orlando International Airport on Sunday following “an altercation” between him and Paige. Paige tweeted that they were the ones to get police involved after a fan threw a drink into El Patron’s face.
But TMZ released an audio recording of the incident (available here) made by a female witness, confirming that the rough-up was between El Patron and Paige. The witness claimed El Patron was smelling alcohol and clearly heard a yelling and crying Paige screaming that Del Rio had been doing cocaine for “two days straight”.
After a Facebook post from Paige’s brother Zak Bevis, saying “I’ve got to say I’m very worried about my sister. I love my sister she will end up like Whitney Houston or Amy Winehouse”, Roy Bevis, Paige’s half-brother, also expressed concern over Paige’s well-being.
Roy Bevis also claimed his family has photos of beatings that Paige has suffered at the hands of Alberto El Patron over the past six months. He also stated his sister won’t be returning to WWE because El Patron will not allow her to do so.
Paige’s father, Ricky Knight, who has always heavily criticised her relationship with El Patron, posted this statement today on Facebook: “Want to thank you, everyone, literally hundreds of you, for your support over my daughter Paige. It’s truly humbling believe it will get sorted but right now I have to get back to helping my besty fight his biggest challenge once again thanks to you all.”
As the GFW’s Unified Champion, El Patron was one of the focal points of the post-Slammiversary TV tapings, with a storyline involving LAX. GFW hasn’t indicated whether El Patron’s suspension will lead to those tapings being edited. If El Patron quoted recently he wanted to end his wrestling career with GFW/Impact Wrestling, the end could suddenly be coming sooner than expected…
