Just a few days after successfully defending the WWE United Kingdom Championship, Pete Dunne already knows who’s going to be his next challenger. WWE announced today The Bruiserweight will face Gentleman Jack Gallagher on August 12 in New York City at a PROGRESS event. The match will only be for the WWE UK title as Dunne is also PROGRESS World Champion.

Last May, Dunne defeated Tyler Bate, the inaugural Champion, at NXT TakeOver: Chicago in an amazing match. Dunne’s first title defence took place last Saturday in Glasgow, Scotland, at ICW “Shug’s Hoose Party 4”. He defeated Trent Seven, Wolfgang and BT Gunn in a Fatal 4-Way Match. 205 Live star Noam Dar was also back in his homeland for the event.

Dunne and Gallagher already squared off last year at PROGRESS Chapter 29 event in London in a WWE Cruiserweight Classic Qualifying Match in which Gallagher prevailed (see below). Gallagher stated he and Dunne have a common history in PROGRESS in a video announcing the match.

Ever since that match, Gallagher had entered the WWE Cruiserweight Classic Tournament but was defeated in the second round. The Mat Wizard impressed WWE enough to make him a part of the Cruiserweight division that debuted live on November, 29 2016 in the 205 Live weekly show. He faced Cruiserweight Champion Neville last March at Fastlane PPV in what some considered as match of the night.

Meanwhile, Dunne had continued to impress in UK promotions and was announced to be one of the 16 talents to compete for the WWE United Kingdom Championship in the inaugural tournament on January 14 and 15. He advanced to the finals but lost against Tyler Bate. He showed his bad side when he attacked Sam Gradwell on Night 1 when the quarterfinals were announced and on Night 2 after he won this quarterfinal.
