We told you a month ago the company was eyeing on the young prodigy. But WWE only broke the news today that Lio Rush was now a part of WWE. The 22-year-old “blockbuster” joined the Performance Center today. No words yet on if he will start with NXT or create a surprise in 205 Live.

In just 3 years, Lio Rush has already competed in 43 states of the USA, Canada, Mexico, the United Kingdom, Germany and Ireland. After a successful amateur wrestling career in high school, he learned professional wrestling at Maryland Championship Wrestling Training Center. He soon made a name for himself wrestling for MCW, but also for EVOLVE and Lucha Libre Elite.

He debuted with Combat Zone Wrestling on December 2014, teaming with Patrick Clark (The Velveteen Dream on NXT) as The “Sudden Impact”. Nearly a year after his debut he won the CZW Wired TV Championship. Three months later, he won it a second time in an epic Fatal-Four-Way match. He finally grabbed the coveted CZW World Heavyweight Championship on May 2017 but Davey Richards ended his reign only 17 days after, as Rush was on his way to leave the company.

Six months after his professional debut, Rush took part of a ROH training camp, wasn’t signed at first because of his lack of experience. Later, he took part of another training camp and, with the backing of talents like Adam Cole, Kyle O’Reilly or Jay Lethal, was signed as a participant in the 2016 Top Prospect Tournament. A tournament he won two months after debuting with ROH on December 2015.

Even if Rush never won a title in ROH, he impressed with his unique style. He recently worked with Pro Wrestling Guerrilla and House of Glory, capturing the HOG Crown Jewel Championship. At only 160 pounds, he soon became a fan favorite for his high-flying style, daredevil creativity and unbelievable resiliency, as well as his “Dragon’s Call” finisher, “a devastating frog splash that recalls D’Lo Brown’s split-leg variation”, like WWE quotes in its announcement.
