Last time we saw Rockstar Spud on Impact Wrestling, he was squaring off with Swoggle in a Mumbai Street Fight in India. A match he lost, as well as his pants. It was on June 29 episode. PWInsider is revealing IMPACT in fact granted his release request a few weeks ago.
After a brilliant ride in the UK wrestling scene, Spud was the winner of the first-ever TNA Wrestling: British Boot Camp reality competition series in 2013 and earned a spot in the TNA roster. He made his debut the month later attacking, and then defeating, Robbie E. But he was quickly sent to OVW, TNA’s developmental territory, where he became the first man to win the OVW Television Championship in his debut match. He took part in the X-Division Championship tournament that took place at Destination X but was eliminated in his first-round.
He returned on IMPACT by the end of November 2013 as Dixie Carter’s Chief of Staff and also debuted with Japanese promotion, and TNA partner, Wrestle-1 in Tokyo a few months later. He came back on the Impact Zone to feud with EC3 as Carter thought Spud was responsible of his aunt being put through a table by Team 3D and fired him from his position as Chief of Staff. He allied with Tyrus to fight EC3 and Eric Young, but lost the match.
Spud entered the X-Division competition in 2015 and won his first X-Division title on March 2015 by defeating Low Ki. He lost it in May against Kenny King, to win it back 4 weeks later during a Gauntlet match. But Spud decided to vacate the X-Division title to gain a title shot for the TNA World Heavyweight Championship. To succeed in it, he faced Kurt Angle, Austin Aries, Ethan Carter III, every time in losing efforts.
He took part in the first ever TNA World Title Series as a member of Group UK by the end of 2015. He then came back to his old feud with EC3 and teamed up with Matt Hardy and Tyrus. During 2016, ha was involved in a feud with Braxton Sutter. He took part in the Total Nonstop Deletion special event on December 2016 and was defeated by King Maxel, Matt Hardy’s 17-months-old son. He became Aron Rex’s manservant and started to feud with Swoggle, until this last match in Mubai taped in May but aired the following month.
Since this match, Spud has been back on the UK wrestling scene, working with Kamikaze Pro, Southside Wrestling Entertainment, Lucha Forever, IPW:UK and Fight Club: PRO, among others. He returned to USA to compete with Freedom Pro Wrestling in Nashville and made his debut with Wrestle Circus on October 21. Pro Wrestling Sheet is noting WWE could be interested in signing Spud for 205 Live or the UK shows, once he‘s available.
