After Michael Cole comments tonight during Christmas edition of RAW, WWE issued the following statement about Dean Ambrose status. It is confirmed now Dean Ambrose injury will keep him out approximately nine months, he will miss WrestleMania 34 in New Orleans in April and probably SummerSlam next August.

Dean Ambrose was expected to be out 4 to 6 months due to a high-grade triceps tendon injury. The successful surgery confirmed the injury. Dr. Jeffrey Dugas in Birmingham, AL, explained Ambrose “basically tore about 50 percent of the triceps tendon away from the bone. The surgery was very straightforward; we removed all of that extra swollen stuff around his elbow.” Dugas added that Ambrose has begun physical therapy, starting with light range-of-motion exercises.

The reason why the word “approximately” is used is that a torn triceps tendon is a quite rare injury that could be a potentially career-threatening one as the triceps is responsible for straightening the elbow. Rehabilitation for this kind of injury is a long and slow process to recover a full range of motion, different for each injury and person. Which means Ambrose could be back in 6 months, if things go well, like in a year…
