IMPACT Wrestling also announced the signing of legendary Indian wrestler Gama Singh. Singh, who’s Jinder Mahal’s uncle, said in the video in the tweet above: “I was to the international wrestling world what Hulk Hogan was in America. And all that knowledge that I have within me, I want to pass it on to the next generation of Indian wrestlers.” He was tonight at IMPACT tapings in Orlando and posed backstage with old friends Konnan and Haku.
Singh, 63, is a semi-retired wrestler. He was one of the top attractions in Stu Hart’s Stampede Wrestling in Calgary, Alberta, Canada for much of the 1970s and 1980s. He wrestled in Japan for NJPW, South Africa, Germany, Kuwait, Dubai, Oman, Australia, USA and Puerto Rico. He also worked sporadically, mostly on overseas tours, for WWE from 1980 to 1986.
IMPACT Wrestling has developed a strong bond with India over the years. In 2011, the company developed his own promotion, Ring Ka King, that featured both Indian wrestlers and American wrestlers. One season of 26 episodes was taped and aired. In June 2017, they partnered with Sony Six to become the first major promotion to tape in Mumbai, India. Four episodes were aired from this taping session.
