As soon as the WrestleMania Fabulous Moolah Memorial Battle Royal was announced on RAW, wrestling fans were not happy WWE was about to honour a controversial figure of the business. Moolah has been accused of pimping younger women’s wrestlers and taking their pay decades ago, among other bad business practices.

As the fan backlash has been expanding on social medias, WrestleMania exclusive presenting partner was told of the situation and expressed its disagreement, and petitions were gathering thousands of signatures online, WWE just made the following statement to announce they were changing the name of the Battle Royal:

“After further consideration, we believe it’s best to proceed with the name ‘WrestleMania Women’s Battle Royal.’ What remains most important is that this historic match is part of WWE’s unwavering commitment to the Women’s Division.”

Stephanie McMahon thanked the WWE Universe in a tweet for raising their voice and showing them that the historic moment this match is about to be was the most important. Fans were asking WWE to rename the Battle Royal and honour another trailblazer female wrestler like Mae Young, Wendi Richter, Sherri Martel or Madusa.
