This time, it’s over. Alberto El Patron has been released from Impact Wrestling. Last year, El Patron was stripped of the World title because of the incident that happened in an airport with his then-girlfriend, WWE wrestler Paige. He eventually came back in the Impact Zone at Bound for Glory in Ottawa last November.
El Patron didn’t show on Friday’s “Lucha Underground vs. Impact” Twitch TV event in New Orleans. He took part of the press conference on Friday afternoon with his Redemption opponent, World Champion Austin Aries. Some sources said he was sick but the news of his release let think something wrong happened.
He’s now said to have voluntarily missed the show, like he missed an appearance earlier in the day. Some are saying Alberto’s well-being was great concern among people in the company on Friday night, to the point there was talk at one point of calling the police for a wellness check.
Last week, a long video package was aired, showing both Aries and El Patron express their feelings about their upcoming match. El Patron was saying he was aware of what happened before and he had something to prove to himself after getting stripped of the title last year.
