WWE has undergone a number of major changes in recent years. They’ve stated their commitment to raising the level of their female fighters, to put them on an equal footing with their other superstars. They’ve also started pushing promotions in Saudi Arabia, marking a new era in terms of their global presence. However, at the end of the day, it all comes down to the fighters in the ring. There are a few potential returns tipped for the near future, and we’re going to look at some of the biggest ones so that you can know exactly what to expect.
Chris Jericho
Chris Jericho has been a major draw for WWE for some time. He’s got a long history with the company, and it’s always been clear what a major asset he is. His match against Kenny Omega in Japan was a major coup for the company and proved to be a favourite with the fans. He’s still got his hands tied up with the NJPW, but plenty of pundits reckon it won’t be long before he finds himself back at the heart of WWE.
CM Punk
There’s long been a certain amount of crossover between WWE and UFC. CM Punk was one of the most recent, heading to UFC following a fairly ugly lawsuit against a WWE medical professional. However, following a pretty unfortunate losing streak in the league, it seems possible that he may be making a return to WWE. Punk was a massive fan favourite and remains a well-respected figure. If he was happy to return, there’s no doubt that they’d gladly take him back.
Batista
Batista moved his career away from WWE, focussing on roles in Hollywood rather than a life in the ring. He’s actually said that WWE management was in large part responsible for this shift. After a point, they had started to make it clear that the had limited interest in giving him another shot in the company. That said, they’ve always been happy to welcome fighters back with open arms, especially when it can be turned into some kind of crossover. Bearing this in mind, it seems more than likely that we’ll see Batista back in the ring at some point soon.
Dwayne ‘The Rock’ Johnson
It goes without saying that the Rock is one of the most charismatic and successful wrestlers in the history of the industry. He’s also one of the most successful when it comes to making the transfer to Hollywood, and has come to be regarded as a successful actor in his own right. That said, it’s pretty well known that WWE has made numerous attempts to get the Rock back for the occasional one-off appearance. It’s obvious that any match with him in it will bring in the crowds, so hopefully, we’ll get a taste of his talents sometime soon.
Dean Ambrose
After undergoing surgery last December, Dean Ambrose found himself taking a fair amount of time off from the ring. However, as one of the current favourites in WWE as both performer and personality, it’s obvious that both management and fans would be happy to see Ambrose return to the ring. For our money, it’s only a matter of time before he returns to his rightful place at WWE.
These are a few of the best-tipped wrestlers for making a surprise return to the ring. In an ideal world, we’d be seeing all these classic fighters soon. However, only time will tell which of these fan favourites are going to make a return to the great game.
