NJPW confirmed on its website that Hiromu Takahashi has been hospitalized after suffering a neck injury while facing Dragon Lee in the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Championship match on Saturday night’s G1 Special in San Francisco. After the match, he was immediately taken to a nearby hospital, where he’s currently undergoing a thorough evaluation, Takahashi is conscious, and is able to sit and talk.

Rumours started to spread just after the match that Takahashi may have broken his neck due to a botched Phoenix Plex from his opponent. Takahashi was able to wrestle for another couple minutes after taking that move and landed his finisher (Time Bomb) to pick up the pinfall victory and retain the title. But he is said, after finishing the match, to have collapsed backstage and taken to the hospital shortly after.

More updates on the injury and how long Takahashi will be sidelined are expected by NJPW very soon. No news yet on how the injury will influence his current reign as the IWGP Junior Heavyweight Champion.
