After the video game cover Superstar a few weeks ago, 2K and WWE announced the names of the 2 bonus characters that would be available if you pre-order the WWE 2K19 game, instead of waiting for the official release date of October 9, 2018. Former WWE Champion Rey Mysterio is making his comeback in the game, while UFC fighter turned WWE wrestler Ronda Rousey will make her debut as a virtual character.
Rey Mysterio is coming back to virtual WWE action for the first time in four years. The “Master of the 619” will appear in WWE 2K19 as a playable character wearing ring gear reflective of his surprise appearance in the 2018 Royal Rumble. Mysterio confessed that “Never Say Never”, the WWE 2K19 campaign theme, has been a big part of his career. For 2K teams, Mysterio has been “one of the most frequently requested in the WWE 2K franchise” and they’re “thrilled to celebrate Rey Mysterio’s career by bringing him back as part of the WWE 2K19 pre-order offer.”
“Rowdy” Ronda Rousey will make her WWE console video game debut in WWE 2K19, a few months after her debut with the company. The “Baddest Woman on the Planet” will appear in WWE 2K19 as a playable character wearing her signature ring gear inspired by “Rowdy” Roddy Piper. She’s also celebrating the Hall of Famer in a trailer where she included Piper’s verbal praise from her Piper’s Pit podcast appearance in 2015.
“As a WWE Superstar, having support from the Piper family means everything to me,” said Ronda Rousey. “Anybody can call themselves ‘Rowdy’, but it takes a special, talented and dedicated individual to live up to the ‘Rowdy’ name,” said Colt Toombs, son of “Rowdy” Roddy Piper. “My Dad saw it in Ronda, and so do we. She is truly ‘Rowdy to the core,’ and that mindset really comes through in the trailer for WWE 2K19.”
For 2K teams, Rousey is “a one-of-a-kind athlete and incredible ambassador for career and life empowerment, from an Olympic tatami to the UFC Octagon to the WWE ring.” They praised her “discipline, determination and attitude toward accomplishing her goals and silencing her critics” that makes her embody “Never Say Never”, the game campaign theme.

2K also updated details surrounding WWE 2K19 premium product offerings. The Deluxe edition will include a copy of the video game with Deluxe Edition packaging; an access to Season Pass digital content (details announced this summer); an access to pre-order bonus digital content and Collector’s Edition digital content (details announced this summer). The Collector’s Edition will include the whole Deluxe edition products, but in a premium packaging, with exclusive and rare physical collectibles, and also a Limited Edition WWE SuperCard content.
WWE 2K19 is currently scheduled for worldwide release on October 9, 2018, with Early Axxess players receiving their copies and in-game bonuses beginning four days early on October 5, 2018. The game will be available for PlayStation®4 computer entertainment system, the Xbox One family of devices including the Xbox One X and Windows PC. But not on Nintendo Switch.
