Tag-Team wrestling has never been at a better position in WWE. From teams like The Usos, The New Day, The Bar and The Revival on Main Roster, through The Undisputed Era and Moustache Mountain getting WWE TV’s first Five Star match by way of the rumours of a Women’s Tag title being introduced and in the form of Boss n’ Hug Connection, The Riott Squad and The IIconics amongst others, a solid foundation if that is the route they choose to go down, it seems gone may be the days of tag wrestling being presented as ‘lesser’ than singles route much in the way that gone are the days of NXT being just a testing ground for RAW and Smackdown: Live. With that in mind, here are some teams I think could be tested out in NXT:
Ricochet and Velveteen Dream
These are two wrestlers who I’d thought would make a great team since the opening ladder match of NXT Takeover: New Orleans. Both incorporate a high-flying, acrobatic style but their very opposing personas is what would make them a really interesting team. Velveteen Dream’s over the top and, as his name implies, dreamy aura combined with Ricochet’s more straightforward but still charismatic persona would make for a really great “opposites attract” kind of pairing. Their match at Takeover: Chicago II also proved that each wrestler is equally capable of incorporating the other’s style into their own move set which would make for a great and highly dynamic team.
Rhea Ripley and TM61
I love mixed gender factions and I think these three would make a really great one. Although they all share something in common with their home country being Australia, there are other reasons why I think they would make a great faction. Shane Thorne and Nick Miller have a very fast-paced, high-flying style whereas Ripley’s style is more of a powerhouse one. These attributes combined could make for a really dynamic team. I think they’d be a great face or heel faction in NXT.
Pete Dunne, Kevin Owens, and Sami Zayn
With Zayn and Owens already being an established team, I think Pete Dunne would be a perfect addition to that team. His attitude is very similar to Owens and I think he and Zayn could play off of each other in great ways. All three are great wrestlers and Dunne’s style would mesh perfectly, as this technical “Bruiserweight” is efficient in any and all areas of the ring. I think fans would instantly take to this team and I can just imagine the unbelievable matches they could have with anyone on the WWE roster.
Kairi Sane and Io Shirai
Io Shirai has just recently signed with WWE and I think her along with her fellow Stardom alumnus would make an amazing team. They wrestled each other multiple times in Stardom and were part of a three-person faction in Lucha Underground. They are no stranger to one another and this already established chemistry is what I think would make them a great team or, to be honest, amazing rivals in NXT and on the main WWE roster.
Ringkampf
Marcel Barthel (formerly known as Axel Dieter Jr.) is starting to make an impact on the non-televised NXT shows and rumours have been circulating that WALTER, another member of Ringkampf on the independent wrestling scene, will be making his way to WWE soon. Ringkampf is already a well-established team with huge amounts of fan support and adoration. It would be incredible to see a team originating in wXw and making waves all across the European and American independent circuit finally make it into a WWE ring.
