On March 20, 2019, WWE announced that the undisputed Cruiserweight Champion Buddy Murphy will be facing Tony Nese at WrestleMania 35.

Tony Nese earned the opportunity to face Murphy for the Cruiserweight Championship after surpassing the rest of 205 Live roster in a Cruiserweight Tournament.

Nese defeated talents such as Drew Gulak and Kalisto, in order to advance to the Champion. Find out more about the tournament and 205 Live in Humza‘s weekly reviews.

Buddy Murphy debuted in pro-wrestling in 2007 in Melbourne, Australia. In Australia, Murphy held one of the longest wrestling championships at Melbourne City Wrestling. His record of hold MCW Heavyweight Champion was for 293 days. Murphy showed before arriving at WWE that he is a superior talent to be added to the roster.

Buddy Murphy would sign his development contract for WWE NXT on March 17, 2013. He premiered on the brand as a tag team with Sawyer Fulton. Fulton and Murphy would become NXT Tag Champions and hold a reign of 219 days. They would tragically loose those titles on May 18, 2016.

When arriving to 205 Live in early 2018, Buddy Murphy lost 25 pounds to qualify for the brand. Murphy would debut in the Cruiserweight Championship tournament to fulfil his craving for championship gold. He would be removed from the tournament due to not making his weigh-in.

However, this would not keep the courageous former tag champion down. He would return with the accurate weigh-in and challenge Cedric Alexander for the championship. Murphy would win his Cruiserweight title in his homeland of Australia.

Buddy Murphy has held the title for 164 days and is close to beating the longest reigning Cruiserweight champion Neville. Neville held the title for 196 days. If Murphy retains at WrestleMania, it is no doubt that he will surpass the King of The Cruiserweights, Neville.

Buddy Murphy, the grappler, elegant aerial move expert, bold, but most of all a dominant and relevant Cruiserweight Champion, will face Tony Nese at WrestleMania 35, on Sunday, April 7, 2019.
