On March 20, 2019, HHH addressed the NXT Universe regarding the NXT title. Unfortunately, the black and gold brand’s Champion Tommaso Ciampa had to drop the title due to injury. Originally, the plans were that Johnny Gargano would challenge Ciampa for the NXT Championship. The match was to take place at NXT Takeover: New York. However, since Tommaso Ciampa has been removed from the card due to a serious neck injury. The state of the NXT Championship was a question.
Tommaso Ciampa endured anterior cervical fusion surgery with Dr. Andrew Michael Cordover, to take the pressure off his spinal cord. The former NXT champion is expected to receive a great recovery. Ciampa is anticipated to be clear for action on his road to recovery and will return to the ring.
