The first Worlds Collide event took place last January and featured the 15-man Worlds Collide tournament, with the wrestlers being equally divided amongst the NXT, NXT UK, and 205 Live rosters. The winner of the tournament would receive a championship match of their choice for either the United Kingdom, North American, NXT, or Cruiserweight Championship. The tournament was won by NXT’s Velveteen Dream, who chose to face, successfully, Johnny Gargano for the NXT North American Championship.
