We are six days removed from NXT’s biggest show ever, I’m Scott Hammond and this is NXT from the Barclays Centre in Brooklyn, New York.

We started this week with the obligatory video package highlighting all matches from NXT TakeOver: New York. Great stuff as always, followed by a brand new show intro, very cool.

Candice LeRae vs Aliyah (with Vanessa Bourne)

On the way to the ring, Nigel McGuinness pointed out that since Aliyah aligned herself with Vanessa Bourne, she had found success. From my count, on television she has won two matches. Two. Each to their own I suppose. LeRae started up with a dropkick on Aliyah that sent her to the outside, and followed up with a baseball slide, but Aliyah had already rolled back into the ring. Vanessa Bourne distracted LeRae long enough for Aliyah to take advantage, she draped LeRae’s arm over the top rope and snapped it.

Aliyah then hit a weak kick to the gut, followed by stomps in the corner. She then put LeRae in a strait jacket stretch, but LeRae powered out, but before she could do anything she was hit with a big boot from Aliyah off the ropes. LeRae then started her comeback to absolutely zero reaction from the live crowd, hitting a step up senton, followed by a middle rope springboard moonsault (ala Chris Jericho) for a surprise pinfall victory.

Winner: Candice LeRae

At one point, a few months back, I felt bad for Aliyah, but after watching her in this match, it was just plain bad.

A highlight package from the NXT North American Title match between Matt Riddle and Velveteen Dream at NXT TakeOver: New York aired next, I still don’t like Riddle. He’s a natural heel.

This was followed by highlights from the Tag Team Title match between the War Raiders and Ricochet and Aleister Black. NXT will truly miss these two incredible talents. Both Ricochet and Black will go on to do great things, I have no doubt.

Danny Birch (with Oney Lorcan) vs Jaxson Ryker (with Forgotten Sons)

Both men started this match aggressively. Birch went to the top rope early, but got pulled off and hit with a huge elbow to the face by Ryker. Ryker followed up with a belly to back suplex, ascended to the middle rope and hit a diving headbutt. Ryker then popped on a sleeper hold, but it didn’t last long as Birch stood up and dropped him with a jaw breaker. Birch then started his comeback, hitting a step up enziguri and followed it up immediately with a missile dropkick. Blake and Cutler tried to interfere at this point, but Oney Lorcan jumped into the ring and hit a big cross body to Blake over the top rope to the outside. The distraction led to Ryker taking back control, and hitting the widow maker on Birch for the pinfall victory.

Winner: Jaxson Ryker

After the match, the Forgotten Sons beat down both Lorcan and Birch before posing to the camera to end the segment. Meh. The match was okay, but the Forgotten Son’s push continues.

Highlights from the NXT Women’s Title match at NXT TakeOver: New York aired, including the incredible double KOD from Bianca Belair. This was followed by a post TakeOver match interview with Shayna Baszler who simply said she was taking all the women in NXT out.

Highlights from the NXT UK Title match between WALTER and Pete Dunne was next, followed by an extended video package detailing Adam Cole vs Johnny Gargano that culminated with Gargano winning the NXT title at NXT TakeOver: New York.

Street Profits (Angelo Dawkins & Montez Ford) vs European Union (Fabian Aichner & Marcel Barthel)

This match also started quickly, with both members of the European Union beating down on Montez Ford, before he came off the ropes and hit a double dropkick on both men. Ford worked Barthel into the corner, but he retaliated with an enzuigiri, followed by a gut wrench driver. Aichner then tagged in, and put the boots to Ford in the corner. He then brought Ford to the centre of the ring and hit a snap suplex. Aichner and Barthel were tagging in frequently here, and both men then entered and Aichner hit a spinebuster, which Barthel then immediately followed up with a kick to the chest of a seated Ford. Good double team work here. Aichner then applied a sleeper hold that Ford worked out of, and eventually made the hot tag to Dawkins, who came in like a house on fire.

He hit T-Bone suplexes on both Aichner and Barthel, but Aichner quickly recovered and cleared him from the ring. Aichner set Dawkins up in the corner on the mat and the European Union then hit stereo basement dropkicks. Barthel then hit a tope suicida immediately on Dawkins who fell to the outside of the ring, whilst in the ring, Aichner hit a double springboard moonsault on Ford for a two count. Aichner then picked up Ford but was speared by Dawkins in the process. Dawkins then balanced Barthel on his shoulders, and Ford hit a tope rope blockbuster for the pinfall victory.

Winners: The Street Profits

Overall, a typical recap show, as is always after a NXT TakeOver show, but two of the three matches here felt very flat for a crowd that were so hot for the main show. The tag match was decent but could have done with more time. We will be back next week at Full Sail to start the new wrestling calendar year in NXT!
