So far in this tournament, I have managed to avoid A block as much as possible. Tonight I’m not so lucky, we have SANADA vs Lance Archer, Hiroshi Tanahashi vs Bad Luck Fale and Ospreay vs KENTA. On the bright side EVIL should have a good match with Okada so let’s get right into this night of A Block action.
SANADA vs Lance Archer
Archer played a good big man as usual here dominating proceedings. SANADA’s offence is weak though and his comeback was what brought the match down. It was ok but SANADA really needs to get better at offence. SANADA won with a roll-up after slipping out of the giant’s grasp.
Winner: SANADA Rating: 3 out of 10
Bad Luck Fale vs Hiroshi Tanahashi
Why would anyone watch this? Bad Luck Fale has the worst matches of any “major league” wrestler on the planet. Can we just jettison him from G1 in future? Fale wins because of course.
Winner: Bad Luck Fale Rating: 0 out of 10
KENTA vs Will Ospreay
Ospreay’s dubbed theme is better than Elevated but it’s funny you can clearly still hear Elevated in the background of his entrance. KENTA was KENTA and he mercilessly beat up Ospreay all throughout the match. Anyone caught dissing KENTA from here on in will be subject to 10 consecutive hours of Bad Luck Fale matches. Ospreay brought the match down a little as his strikes weren’t as good as KENTA’s but he’s been much better in the G1 than he was in BOSJ. Ospreay got the win with storm breaker for the shock win.
Winner: Will Ospreay Rating: 5 out of 10
Zack Sabre Junior vs Kota Ibushi
Something different from the usual ZSJ match. He still honed in on a body part but this time used a lot more kicks than submissions to wear Ibushi down. Ibushi, as usual, fought back and was his great self. Ibushi gets the win with Kamigoye.
Winner: Kota Ibushi Rating: 4 out of 10
Kazuchika Okada vs EVIL
The ace Okada trying to beat EVIL but the powerhouse EVIL causing problems. Honestly Okada more than anyone can be criticised for running through a formula of spots. His matches all have the same flow, the same moves and there’s been little to no deviation during this current reign and this match was no different. If you like his stuff that’s cool I’m just over it.
Winner: Kazuchika Okada Rating: 2 out of 10
Two ok matches but not much worth watching this was another disappointing night of A block action. KENTA is probably the MVP of the group with Archer a close second.
