NJPW has revealed the full details for the Super J Cup taking place later in the month. The tournament that was created by Jushin “Thunder” Liger is back. If he will produce the tournament, Liger is set not to compete in.

The Super J Cup is a 16-man single elimination junior tournament set to take place from August 22nd until August 25th whilst the company is in America.

The first show, taking place in Tacoma on August 22nd, will feature tournament action and will be main-evented by a massive dream match, Will Ospreay vs Amazing Red. Red had vanished from wrestling until his announcement in the tournament was made.

The other names and matches in the tournament are as follows:

  • SHO vs Taiji Ishimori
  • Clark Connors vs TJP (TJ Perkins)
  • Robbie Eagles vs El Phantasmo
  • Ryusuke Taguchi vs Jonathan Gresham
  • YOH vs Dragon Lee
  • Caristico vs BUSHI
  • Rocky Romero vs Soberano Jr

One of the most notable matches, bar the Amazing Red match, is the bout between Robbie Eagles and El Phantasmo as the two used to be a Bullet Club team but Eagle’s actions have seen him leave the group. It’s easy to imagine there will be some bad blood between the two.

All first-round matches are set to take place on the 22nd in Tacoma with quarterfinal matches happening in San Francisco on the 24th and the finals will be fought at the Walter Pyramid in Long Beach, Los Angeles. The three shows of the Super J Cup will be available to watch on NJPW World, the NJPW streaming service.
