If you didn’t catch episode one, welcome to 31 Days of Deathmatches. This is an advent calendar style countdown to Halloween offering you a door of deliciously gory wrestling per day. Our trip to the spookiest day of the year will take us around the world and through time. This will chronicle some of the most significant deathmatches throughout the years but will mostly consist of my absolute favourite barbed wire bouts and glass shattering matches. Without further ado, let’s open the next door.
What happens when you give Jimmy Havoc an executive producer role to your weekly TV show? This happens. A night of bloody matches, blood feuds and a jockeying for the position to be top hardcore wrestler of the company. It was designed to be a Halloween tribute show produced by the man willing to shed the most blood for his art. Every match had some kind of hardcore element as you would expect and every match pitted factions against each other.
Our first special match to focus on was a Tijuana Street fight between Josef Samael and El Hijo de LA Park. The match looked like it wasn’t going to happen when all of a sudden Samael attacks from behind and the pair brawl around the rooftop. They bash off walls, fences, poles and put each other through floor boards. It ends with a Contra Unit ambush and El Hijo de LA Park has to be carried off.
The second was a triple threat between Havok himself, Savio Vega and Damien 666. This was a triple threat between two deathmatch legends and a brawling master. Damien 666 may be the only person who could be called more of a deathmatch specialist than Havoc. Either way this was going to get messy. We got to see bin shots, chair shots, table spots and Savio Vega using a kendo stick like a lightsabre. I don’t know who Jimmy Havoc pissed off but he has a habit of getting turned into a pincushion on a daily basis now. He managed to overcome this and used a Damien 666 Superplex to hit Vega with the Acid Rainmaker. He won the main event of his own show and beatdown Damien 666 after the match. His son Bestia 666 had to scare Havoc away.
This is my first MLW show to make the calendar. It may be a little late but who couldn’t see a Jimmy Havoc produced episode and not give it its own place on a calendar of goriness. Every match was fun and for 45 minutes on YouTube… you really can’t go wrong. Plus, they just announced a Stairway to Hell match between Mance Warner and Jimmy Havoc for Saturday Night Superfight. Guess who will be watching that…
