If you didn’t catch episode one, welcome to 31 Days of Deathmatches. This is an advent calendar-style countdown to Halloween offering you a door of deliciously gory wrestling per day. Our trip to the spookiest day of the year will take us around the world and through time. This will chronicle some of the most significant deathmatches throughout the years but will mostly consist of my absolute favourite barbed wire bouts and glass shattering matches. Without further ado, let’s open the next door.
It’s back to Beyond wrestling for our next deathmatch. I present to you this time, Nick Gage vs David Starr. Two people present at Americanrana. However, Gage merely called Starr’s match then, here he brutalised him in some extreme ways. I don’t know much of the context for this match but I did find it late at night searching for deathmatches on YouTube. Funnily enough, this is how I found Beyond Wrestling. I’ll also never get over the fact David Star wrestled this match in only his trunks. There were so many items that could have easily caused him great harm at play here. Well, that and the MDK king willing to use them.

The match starts technically but quickly breaks down when David Starr has a fuck it moment and hurls Gage into the barbed wire. Starr didn’t stop there, following that up with some thumbtacks. He paid the price for that as Gage dropped him in them with a Uranage and making him swallowing a mouthful of them with a kick to the face. He also ended up going back first into a barbed wire board off the top rope. Starr was getting messed up by Gage. The whole ring became a hazard for both men to avoid. The tacks gave way to staples as the pair took turns stapling the other. Even the ref got stapled for trying to intervene. After that, the ref aided Starr in removing the barbed wire from a board to wrap around the head and face of Gage, cutting his hands up in the process. He was successful in applying it and choked Gage out with the world’s most masochistic Sleep Hold ever.
Gage passed out in this match, giving Starr another deathmatch win. He was completely unhinged in this match, legitimately seeming to want to kill Gage. He went about freeing that barbed wire with tunnel vision that would have made Abyss say calm down. There was a blood lust I rarely see in Starr that honestly, much like his Americanrana bout, really impressed me. The comments on the video are a riot to read as a lot of people watched this one with a weak stomach. I added this match as a thank you for introducing me to the great world of Beyond Wrestling. Though not all of it is quite so winced inducing or bloody, check out Uncharted Territory and find out for yourself.
Come back tomorrow for your next deathmatch treat!
