John Morrison is headed back to WWE’s squared circle after agreeing to a multi-year contract with WWE. The Guru of Greatness is set to bring his Hollywood style back to WWE for the first time since 2011. A former Tag Team and Intercontinental Champion, Morrison is still fondly remembered by the WWE Universe for his unique and exciting in-ring style, which was influenced by his extensive background in parkour. Morrison’s TV return and brand affiliation are still to be determined.

Rumours have been running rampant for weeks but, as you all know, SteelChair Mag is not, and has never been, a land of “reportedly”. On WWE Backstage show yesterday night, WWE confirmed John Morrison is officially returning to the company and signed a multi-year contract. Morrison left WWE in 2011 and has since never stopped wrestling for many companies in the USA, the UK, Qatar, Australia and Mexico, among others. The film graduate was also spotted in many TV shows and movies, including “Boone, The Bounty Hunter” of which he was the co-writer and executive producer.

We could focus on all his WWE successes, former 5-time Tag Team Champion with Joey Mercury and The Miz, 3-time Intercontinental Champion, one-time ECW Champion. What we could retain from Johnny Nitro/Morrison from 2004 to 2011 is his unique repertoire that was making Jim Ross says, “don’t blink, you will miss something.” Morrison was described by WWE as having “lightning-fast offence”, “high-risk aerial expertise”, and “incredible agility”. This unique mix of Parkour, high-flying Lucha Libre style was at that time something so innovative it has inspired many wrestlers

After leaving WWE, John Morrison had had an extremely successful career in Lucha Libre AAA of which he was the Mega, World Cruiserweight and Latin America Champion at the same time, Lucha Underground where he captured all 3 titles, 5Star Wrestling in the UK, World Series Wrestling in Australia, Qatar Pro Wrestling, and most recently Impact Wrestling, of which he was the World Champion as Johnny Impact.

As Impact Wrestling reviewer, I’ve had the chance to talk to John Morrison/Impact/Nitro many times over the last 2 years. He told me how proud he was of everything he has done in the wrestling business. He was quoting his match against Rey Mysterio in 2009, when he won the Intercontinental Championship, as one of his favourite matches in WWE. Despite all the names he was given, all the companies he has worked with, he has been able to reinvent himself constantly and be ambitious, in order to remain a fresh player in the business.

Now, at 40, JoMo has a chance to come back to WWE and try to grab what he has never been able to, a World Championship title. Despite all the chances he was given, he had never won one of WWE’s most coveted belts. Wherever he comes back, RAW, SmackDown or NXT, he will for sure be a serious and very interesting contender for the Universal, WWE or NXT World Championship. One thing is sure, we can’t wait to see him back in a WWE ring.
