During ROH’s Final Battle PPV, the team of Jonathan Gresham and Jay Lethal managed to defeat 11-time ROH Tag Team Champions, The Briscoe Brothers. It seemed as though The Briscoes were about to deliver the Doomsday Device until Gresham managed to save his partner, allowing Jay Lethal to get the pin. This week’s ROH TV starts off with a video package recapping the events of the match, following Ian Riccaboni and Quinn McKay revealing that this week’s episode of ROH TV will be a tag team special. Whilst not the strongest of episodes, we did get to see the unbeaten team of 2 Guys 1 Tag take on The Briscoes in the main event, and it didn’t disappoint.

The Bouncers defeated Dalton Castle & Joe Hendry

If you’re in a match with Brian Milonas and Beer City Bruiser, you know you’re in for a rough ride. The Bouncers may not put on a technical masterclass, but their power is enough to knock the wind out of their opponents. Although Dalton Castle and Joe Hendry are two fantastic wrestlers in singles competition, they found it difficult to work together as a team, with both members often making mistakes when it came to opportunities for a double team.

The Bouncers had momentum on their side early after a battering ram on Hendry, and BCB launching himself off the top turnbuckle to the outside, landing on both Milonas and the team of Castle and Hendry. Inside the ring, Joe Hendry was being worn down by various strikes, especially by Milonas after a senton. Dalton Castle got tagged in an delivered a DDT followed by an Olympic-style slam on Beer City Bruiser, but it wasn’t enough to turn the tide. The Bouncers regained the upper hand, ending the match with Joe Hendry eating a leg drop from Brian Milonas off the second rope.

Brian Johnson & PJ Black defeated Master and Machine

Brian Johnson is a miserable wrestler with no charisma and a bad attitude, so trying to work out why PJ Black took him under his wing might take a while. Black has been wrestling around the world for over 20 years, and his experience in the match certainly helped. In the early stages, Brian Johnson was intent on bending the rules, but PJ Black kept telling him to stop cheating after he was holding the ropes during a submission attempt. It didn’t take long before Master and Machine took advantage of BJ’s mistakes, with Griff Garrison showing off his athleticism to full effect.

Whilst Marcus Kross tagged in Garrison, Johnson refused to tag in Black, which led to Griff Garrison bringing the pain to his opponents, including a spinebuster on Black, and one hell of a Stinger Splash on both of them. Master and Machine delivered a Skywalker Elbow, but after a superkick by Black, Brian Johnson delivered a fist drop and got the pin. The team of Johnson and Black had their problems, and only time will tell how long they’ll stay together, but a win is a win, whether they deserved it or not.

Brian Zane’s Top 5 Tag Teams in ROH History

To break things up, “The Influencer” Brian Zane delivered who he thought were the best tag teams in ROH history, giving fans the chance to relive some of the best the company has had on its roster. In fifth place were Generation Next, specifically Austin Aries and Roderick Strong. In fourth were the Kings of Wrestling, and it was great to see Chris Hero and Claudio Castagnoli before they went onto bigger and brighter things. AEW’s The Young Bucks came in third, with Bobby Fish and Kyle O’ Reilly’s Red Dragons in second. In a decision that should shock no-one, The Briscoe Brothers came top, which led nicely into the episode’s main event.

Two Guys One Tag (Silas Young & Josh Woods) defeated The Briscoe Brothers to become #1 contenders for the ROH Tag Team Championships

Nobody would’ve put Josh Woods and Silas Young together, but Two Guys One Tag are currently undefeated in Ring of Honor. The Briscoes are the greatest tag team to ever step foot into a ROH ring, so picking up a win against “Dem Boys” would be a big deal. The match featured was from Final Battle Fallout. Jay and Mark took things outside at the beginning, with their signature brutish style wearing down Young and Woods, using headbutts and European uppercuts to knock the wind out of them.

Josh Woods managed to evade Mark Briscoe’s frog splash by trapping him in a cross armbreaker, following it up with an ankle lock. With Jay Briscoe and Silas Young distracted by each other outside, Woods dropped Mark with a wheelbarrow German suplex, and it seemed as though Two Guys One Tag were going to grab the win. However, The Briscoes were back in control, if only for a little while. After an overhead belly-to-belly suplex on Mark Briscoe from the top rope by Woods, all four laid in the ring. The match had been excellent up until this point. Josh Woods was the main star of the match, showcasing how talented he is, even kicking out of a Redneck Boogie.

The Briscoes were about to deliver the Doomsday Device when Jay Lethal came out of nowhere and distracted the referee. This gave Jonathan Gresham an opportunity to knock Mark Briscoe off the turnbuckle, and Woods hit a rolling wheelbarrow suplex into a bridge pin for the victory, making them number one contenders for the tag team gold. It proved to be an excellent match, and with the interference at the end, it’s unlikely we’ve seen the end of this rivalry between The Briscoe Brothers and Gresham & Lethal.
