As a young child first falling in love with professional wrestling I never could have predicted that many years later I would still be watching wrestling. I also could not have predicted that I would be watching a Japanese woman have a wrestling match with a broom in an empty dojo, yet, here we are and I loved every second of it! Let’s break down this match
Every great wrestling match needs a backstory, sure moves are cool but without the passion and emotion wrestling is nothing! Fujimoto vs Broom had a simple yet captivating backstory as broom attacked Fujimoto on many occasions when she least expected it, including once attempting to trip her up. With that tale of good vs evil in place, we were ready for the match.
Fujimoto took it to the broom early and did not let up for the entire match. This included her hitting a sickening enziguiri that took broom clear over the top rope and to the floor. She followed up with a double foot stomp to the face, safe to say Fujimoto was out for blood against her foe.
Broom did have some brief moments of hope including a roll-up for a close 2 count but Fujimoto was relentless and following many more devastating moves defeated broom clean in the middle of the ring.
While this match was short, it told the story of Fujimoto getting revenge on her foe and it was great to see the heel get their comeuppance instead of turning babyface for no apparent reason, then having bad 50 minute matches where they lose because the wife of their opponent turns heel because apparently married couples cannot be separate entities.
Enough about NXT though, Fujimoto followed up on her 2019 MOTY with a giant panda by locking down the 2020 award with this match against broom. Ric Flair quakes at the mere thought of Fujimoto’s talent as he could never have nearly as good a match with Jacket as Fujimoto had with Broom. In summation, this was a good match that was kept short, Fujimoto had some brutal offence before vanquishing her evil foe.
