Despite NXT UK currently not holding events due to pandemic, Amale has broken ground by becoming the first French female wrestler to sign with WWE. Amale took to Twitter to announce that she’s signed with the company for a role on NXT UK, where she’s appeared five times in 2019 and earlier this year.
“The French Hope” Amale Winchester was born in Béziers in southern France and began wrestling in 2012. She is the current wXw Women’s Champion, having won the title back in January of 2019. She’s worked for many French promotions like ICWA or Wrestling Stars, WrestlingKULT and wXw in Germany, and other companies in Belgium or Netherlands. She also appeared in Canada and the USA when she competed with wXw in Toronto last year and wrestled in California a few years ago for AWS.
Since the legendary André the Giant, WWF/WWE have welcomed a few French talents, but always men. Some will remember Clément Petiot, better known as Tristan Archer, who took part in the Cruiserweight Classic Tournament in 2016. From 2012 to 2016, NXT had its French touch with Sylvester Lefort (Tom LaRuffa), later joined in 2014 by Marcus Louis. Both would even form the team The Légionnaires.
