WARNING – STRONG VIOLENCE MEANS STRONG LANGUAGE
Welcome back to 31 Days of Deathmatches Volume 2. The second edition of the annual deathmatch advent calendar put together by yours truly. Each day we will open another bloody door on the calendar and explore another deathmatch until we hit Halloween. We’re going to explore a ton of different companies, wrestlers, and stipulations as the days go on with a few surprises here and there. So, strap in as we prepare for another round of blood, broken glass, and barbed-wire on our road of deathmatches.

MLW is the ultimate clusterfuck when it comes to wrestling. It’s a melting pot of technical master, hybrid masters, powerhouses, and hardcore superstars. Today we focus on the latter and explore one of the final episodes of Fusion before COVID derailed all of MLW’s tapings. They travelled down to Mexico to work with AAA and opened their series of shows with a hardcore horror show. It would be the team of Mance Warner and Savio Vega against Mexico’s top deathmatch stars Pagano and Mortiz in a Barrio street fight. The ring was littered with a slew of vicious toys, tools, and ridiculous objects as even a car bonnet found its way into play. Things were going to open with a bang.
This was a nice mix of brawling and brutality as we saw a whole host of violent attacks from chairs, skewers, and the car bonnet fused with Lucha-infused dives and body attacks through boards. The crowd would willingly give up beers to be used as weapons and cheer as they were doused in the flying liquid. We’d see a continuous trade-off in momentum as team MLW started strong then team AAA started fighting back and upping the ante. Mortiz and Pagano took some extreme punishment in this match as Mortiz got powerbombed onto the car bonnet and Pagano’s head broke a chair. Everyone was tough as nails in taking shots and dishing out forearms, jabs, and elbows. Mortiz upped the ante by setting a table on fire but found this to be his undoing as Mance chokeslammed him off the top rope through it. He rolled around on fire as Mance tried to beat the flames away. Plus, it wouldn’t be a deathmatch with doors. We got door duels and door spears as Pagano and Mance tried to brain each other with them. Right when it looked like the match was won for team MLW, Hammerstone messed everything up by pasting Mance and allowing Mortiz to splash Mance through a table. Vega was crotched on a chair and finished off with a rolling neckbreaker from Pagano. Team MLW may not have been successful but their team of hardcore stars gave the Mexican deathmatch squad a run for their money.
I don’t think I need to explain my thought process too much on why this was included in the calendar. Not only does it feature my favourite Mexican wrestler Pagano but it also showcases another top hardcore match from 2020 with a host of MLW talent. It certainly won’t be the only time MLW feature on the calendar this year but it was one of their strongest deathmatches in a long while. You cannot beat the sight of a Luchador being beaten down whilst he’s on fire. It’s such a wild concept you cannot unsee. Be sure to come back tomorrow for the next deathmatch delight.
