WARNING STRONG VIOLENCE AND LANGUAGE AHEAD
Welcome back to 31 Days of Deathmatches Volume 2. The second edition of the annual deathmatch advent calendar put together by yours truly. Each day we will open another bloody door on the calendar and explore another deathmatch until we hit Halloween. We’re going to explore a ton of different companies, wrestlers, and stipulations as the days go on with a few surprises here and there. So, strap in as we prepare for another round of blood, broken glass, and barbed-wire on our road of deathmatches.
Last year I had a day dedicated to backyard wrestling. The wonderful and weird road that leads a lot of people into wrestling. Whilst I have a whole host of different matches I could use to illustrate this and the whole CHW Backyard YouTube channel at my disposal. I’d rather focus on a different type of backyard wrestling this time, GCW’s Backyard Wrestling 2 show. Held on the 4th of July, this show saw multiple notable matches that could all fill a spot on this card. however, I want to focus on three. Paco Loco vs KC-Kwik, Dexter White vs Vampyro, and EL SHLAKO vs JJ Escobar. I guarantee you’ll know exactly where I’m going with the second match. It will live on in gif and video history for the rest of the time the internet is alive.
So, first up is KC-Kwik (Kit Osbourne) taking on a very angry, very demented deathmatch dirty daddy Paco Loco (Chris Dickinson). This was less of a match and more of a murder. Dickinson threw Osbourne around like a ragdoll to sickening effect. We had Japanese doors that refused to job to bodies, Dickinson using light-tubes and so many more out of character things for Dickinson as he fully embraced the backyard brutality. The wrestling skill was still there but he was going to put Osbourne through his paces and honestly, Osbourne took it all and gave it back. Dickinson legitimately scared people in the way he punished Osbourne, the punishment he took, and the lack of wrist-tape. Joey Janela was on commentary and he was concerned for everyone’s safety.
The second was the Lucha-infused insanity that was Dexter White (Atticus Cogar) vs Vampyro (Façade) as they took to trees and added even more insanity to an already crazy event. This match took athleticism and Lucha-libre then mixed it with copious amounts of glass and fire. Unlike the Dickinson match, people were prepared for this one to get wild. Atticus Cogar is 44OH!’s Silver Teeth Satan, a deathmatch veteran at this point, and Façade is the Neon Ninja pyromaniac. They were given a ball and they ran with it. We even got a super shot of Cogar blocking a fireball with a barbed-wire board. It was pure spectacle and gave the crowd a taste of an out-of-control backyard match.
Last but not least was the main event of this fuckery festival. EL SHLAKO (SHLAK) taking on JJ Escobar, the top stuntman/wrestler of POR Wrestling. This wasn’t really a match. This was SHLAK murdering Escobar for about 7 minutes. He pelted Escobar with fireworks, hit him with a car, and ended it with one of the nastiest spots of the whole show, a firework taped to the crotch. This was a glorious mess of violence. Kind of like what would happen if the Jackass Crew booked a wrestling show. it was really dangerous and pretty dumb but I bloody loved it. You couldn’t write this; you’d just have to get a stuntman to do it and JJ Allin/Escobar was way too happy to do it. This was another backyard trip to add to the calendar. Come back tomorrow for the next deathmatch delight.
