We are one hour before SmackDown, we barely know what’s going to happen tonight (excepted a Spanish-languaged promo video on YouTube), but the only thing we can say without a shadow of a doubt is that Zelina Vega is not going to appear as she has just been released by WWE.

WWE has come to terms on the release of Zelina Vega. We wish her all the best in her future endeavours.

The news is a massive surprise as totally unexpected as she last wrestled during last Friday’s SmackDown, in a Team SmackDown Qualifier with Natalya and the winner, Ruby Riott. Until whether WWE or Zelina Vega gives the true reason for her release, we won’t try to think about which one could it be.

Vega, real name Thea Trinidad, started to train at 17 and wrestled her first match in 2010, at only 19 years old. After some time in the indies, she was signed by TNA. As Rosita, she would become TNA Knockouts Tag Team Champion with Sarita, aka Sarah Stock. After her release, she would work with Lucha Libre AAA, Ring of Honor and Global Force Wrestling, also doing some stunt and acting work.

After some appearances in WWE and NXT in 2013, 2014 and 2016, she was signed in June 2017 and became the manager of Andrade. During the 2018 WWE Superstar Shake-Up, both were drafted to SmackDown, with Vega remaining Andrade’s manager. She would wrestle her first match in July 2018, defeating Lana. She teamed up with Almas and defeated Lana and Rusev at SummerSlam. At Evolution on October 28, Vega competed in a battle royal for a future women’s championship match, but she was eliminated by the eventual winner Nia Jax. At WrestleMania 35, she participated in the Women’s Battle Royal but failed to win.

During the 2019 WWE Superstar Shake-up, both Zelina and Andrade were drafted to RAW before being moved back to SmackDown. As part of the 2019 Draft in October, Vega and Andrade were drafted to RAW. She helped Andrade retain the United States Championship on various occasions. Vega participated in the 2019 women’s Royal Rumble match at the namesake pay-per-view and entered at #25 but was eliminated by Shayna Baszler.

With Garza and Andrade arguing and fighting each other constantly, Vega appeared to end her association with her clients on the 14 September edition of RAW, interrupting and confronting Asuka after she just defeated Mickie James, initiating a feud. A week later on RAW, Vega defeated Mickie James for a title match against Asuka for the Raw Women’s Championship at Clash of Champions, which she lost via submission. As part of the 2020 Draft in October, Vega was drafted to SmackDown, alongside real-life husband WWE Superstar Aleister Black.
