In an Instagram post to help promote ticket day NWA 73, NWA Empowerrr, and 2 days of tapings for NWA Powerrr, NWA’s Mickie James was joined by NWA Champion Nick Aldis and President Billy Corgan to announce that the NWA World Women’s Tag Team Championship would be returning to the company. Mickie James said: “This was obviously something that we both had kind of discussed and I felt like this was obviously the perfect place to do that was to bring back the NWA women’s Tag Team Championships which haven’t been represented haven’t been seen since 1984 (1983).” The tag titles were last seen in the NWA in 1983 in Calgary, Alberta Canada with Princess Victoria and Velvet McIntyre being the last NWA World Women’s Tag Team champions.

Billy Corgan went on to say the titles are currently being made and will be up by the time of the NWA EmPowerrr. Billy also mentioned Mildred Burke being a champion in the company but never being recognized and mentioned this due to the importance of wanting to correct the historical record of Mildred Burkes’s legacy as champion along with the Tag team championships as well. Corgan says the following about rebuilding the NWA into the present: “Part of rebuilding NWA into the 21st century is sort of, you know, kind of rebalancing our approach as a company.”

Mickie James appeared last month on NWA Powerrr alongside Corgan to announce that NWA decided to continue to push their women division with an All-Women’s PPV, NWA EmPowerrr, taking place on August 28th. James will serve as the Executive Producer of the women’s pay-per-view. She noted at that time that this is something she’s wanted to do for a long time, but has been cut off at every opportunity until now receiving a real opportunity to make real history with the NWA. No word yet on who will compete for these Tag Team titles.
