Impact Plus monthly special events have shown us they can become some interesting game-changers in the IMPACT routine. From the classic weekly shows and 4 PPVs a year system, we now have a monthly addition when a title can change hands, feuds can find an end or a beginning. Some must-watch shows, available on Impact plus and on Impact Wrestling YouTube Insiders, the fans couldn’t miss…
We’re still miles away from Rebellion but Sacrifice comes 2 weeks after No Surrender. The build-up was made so fast, as the aftermaths of what happened the iPPV before. Honor No More have a new member that allowed them to stay in the Impact Zone. The Bullet Club also have new members as Jay White turned his back on Guerrillas of Destiny. The case continues, as I’m used to saying every week. But tonight, the scars may slowly heal but they’ll never go away. Let’s dig into it.

Lady Frost finally defeated Gisele Shaw. All lights on her, this time.

Backstage, Mickie James told Gia Miller about how Tasha stole a victory from Chelsea Green and stole an opportunity from her. Chelsea is here to watch Mickie’s back tonight. Mickie wanted to do this on her own, which seems like a bad idea to Chelsea. Mickie wanted to legitimately move on to defending against Chelsea.

Rich Swann and Willie Mack defeated Mike Bennett and Matt Taven. This bout could have honestly been in the main card. Very good match, and without any distraction or interference…

  • IMPACT X-Division Championship Match: Trey Miguel (c) vs. Jake Something

You say it with me, fellow readers? An X-Division is always… the best opener for a PPV. Quite strangely, I came to this match with the idea it could be Something’s last match in the Impact Zone… Trey and Something locked up, Something hit a big clothesline. He stared down at Miguel who replied with some innovative offence, targeting the left arm. Something then hit a big sit-out powerbomb. Trey got whipped into the corner pretty hard. Trey stroke back but Jake hit a forearm and a Spear. He continued with rolling clotheslines now, but Trey fought back with big forearms in the corner, then a springboard splash and a kip-up.

Jake blocked a couple of kicks but didn’t block the Buzzsaw roundhouse kick. Trey hit some chops but that just drove Jake nervous. Jake sent Trey’s head into the mat, then hit the Shock Treatment. Jake hit a couple of clotheslines against the ropes. Trey connected with a twisting kick, sending Jake to the outside. Trey hit a Canadian Destroyer, flying from the apron into Jake into the ramp. Trey tried to lock a Jujigatame but Jake was back and powerbombed Trey into the turnbuckles, then into his knee. Jake went for another powerbomb, but Trey reversed that into a tornado Meteora. Trey went up top, but Jake followed him. Trey slid out of the superplex, hits a kick to the back, the Cheeky Nandos and a 619, then put Jake into place for a huge Meteora off the top for the win. AGREE WITH THE CROWD, THAT WAS AWESOME.

Meanwhile, backstage…

Tasha Steelz told Gia Miller that tonight she and Mickie James are going to sing the same song, but she vowed to sing the song of her becoming the new champion.

  • Rhino vs Eddie Edwards

With so many people around the ring, this match can easily end up as a big brawl… Rhino was dominant early, so Eddie needed to bail out. Eddie got some chops but told Rhino to come on. Eddie and Rhino traded shots, then Eddie got tossed outside towards Team Impact. Back in the ring, Maria handed Eddie his kendo stick. The referee didn’t like that, and he ejected Maria, but only Maria. Eddie and Rhino traded some more shots, Rhino ran off the ropes and got tripped. The referee didn’t see that one though since Team Impact was talking to him. Eddie got the upper hand while the fans chanted for Rhino. Eddie ran into a clothesline though, then a shoulder block in the corner by Rhino.

The fans chanted for a gore, but the referee got distracted by all the men fighting at ringside. Vincent did a big dive. Then Rich Swann ran into the ring and jumped over the ref and dived onto everybody. Willie then dived off the top rope onto everybody. Steve Maclin ran in and hit a DDT on Edwards, who was going to hit Rhino with Kenny (again not King, but the kendo stick). He egged Rhino on for the Gore, then caned Rhino in the back. Eddie hit the Boston Knee Party for the win. BIG BRAWL AS EXPECTED, AND MACLIN WINNER.

  • IMPACT Knockouts Tag Team Championship Match: The IInspiration (c) vs The Influence

Who will win the custody of Kaleb? That’s the question… Jessica got the early advantage on Tenille. Madison tagged in and got double-teamed by Jessica and Cassie. Madison and Cassie traded pin attempts, then Cassie worked the arm. All four were in the ring now. Madison and Tenille dared to mock Jessica and Cassie, so they got sent outside. Cassie got dropped on the apron and Jessica got sent into the ring post. Madison dominated Jessica in the ring now while Cassie was still on the outside.

Jessica got caught in the Tree of Woe, then Madison pulled her hair from the floor. After enjoying A Taste of Tenille, Jessica connected with a knee to the face of Tenille, and Cassie tagged in. She stomped Tenille, kicked Madison away before hitting a Perfectplex on Tenille. Cassie tagged Jessica for the double-team, but Tenille fought it off. The double suplex failed. Cassie got hit with the running kick from Tenille. Here came Kaleb with a K as Cassie was hitting a spin kick. Kaleb grabbed the belts, hesitated, then slid one of the belts into the ring, I think for Jessica, but Tenille grabbed it and hit Cassie with it for the win. NEXT MATCH, PLEASE.

Meanwhile, backstage…

Heath was telling Rhino he should have been by his side tonight but Rhino reminded him of his title match. Heath said he didn’t even know if he was ready for Moose because he had so much on his plate. Here came Anthony Carelli who gave a pep talk to Heath, saying he knew how it was to be the underdog but he seized his opportunity. Heath suddenly was on fire and promised Moose a wake-up call.

Meanwhile, at ringside…

Brian Myers was setting his own announce table to call the rest of the show, but W. Morrissey came out to break that up. Security did it, but they didn’t break it up when one of them got powerbombed through the table.

  • JONAH vs PCO

French Nygma on the French Canadian Frankenstein, you know I will be biased… PCO got the early advantage with some chops, a lariat, and a twisting neckbreaker. A hesitation dropkick to the back of a seated JONAH sent him outside. They fought around the ring until JONAH hit a side Russian leg sweep on the ramp. Back in the ring, JONAH hit more chops, and PCO wanted some more of that. PCO now hit a lot of chops. JONAH got clotheslined over the top, then PCO with a Tope Suicida. He set JONAH up for that apron dive and hit it. PCO went up top but JONAH followed him up to hit one hell of a superplex. The men exchanged forearms.

PCO connected with a German suplex, then JONAH did the same. JONAH clotheslined PCO down but PCO rose from the dead and sat up. Same after a single-arm DDT, PCO sat up. JONAH hit a vertical suplex, PCO was convulsing back to life until getting kicked back down. JONAH went up top, but PCO blocked him and hit a hurricanrana from the top rope. PCO went back up to and then hit the PCO moonsault. JONAH rolled outside, and PCO followed him there. PCO charged, JONAH sent him into the steps, then hit a piledriver on the steel steps. JONAH was not done and he powerbombed PCO from the steps onto the floor. He sent him back into the ring hit the Tsunami for the win. PCO was checked by Dr Ross but was able to get out of the ring on his own. PCO WAS STOLEN, IT WAS A DQ!!!

Meanwhile, backstage…

Jay White told Gia Miller he knew this day would eventually come where he and Shelley would cross paths. He said it’s fitting that it will take place where Shelley made a name for himself. White said Shelley doesn’t know the man he has become, but soon he will show him in the ring.

  • Alex Shelley vs Jay White

The Master vs the Student. White and Shelley traded words before the match began. They locked up and tried to gain an advantage with the Waistlock, but both men escaped each time their opponent tried to lock it in. Shelley gained the advantage and had a little fun with Jay White and gave him a kiss on the head as he took him down on the mat. White and Shelley then traded blows in the corner of the ring. Jay White met the left elbow of Alex Shelley, who continued to control the pace of the match.

As White was draped over the apron, Alex Shelley delivered a knee to the back of the head. Shelley then hit a Cutter onto the top rope, sending White bouncing back into the ring. White managed to work himself back into the contest and hit a backbreaker on Alex Shelley using his knee. White then sent Shelley crashing against the top rope, Shelley fell onto the outside. White then drove Shelley into the apron. Back inside the ring, White delivered a big chop in the corner of the ring. White was firmly in control now as he began to showboat.

White hit another backbreaker and locked Shelley in a Waistlock on the mat. He tried to pick Shelley up for a suplex, but Shelley fought back and sent Jay White down after he hit the ropes. Shelley delivered a number of kicks to the head of Jay White. White eventually countered Shelley’s offence with a big DDT. White hit a Twisting Suplex, Shelley replied by sending White face-first into the middle turnbuckle.

White managed to strangle Shelley’s eyes. Shelley and White went back and forth before White drove Shelley into the mat. White looked to hit another move, but Shelley countered it into a Sliced Bread. Shelley hit White with a superkick as he sent Jay White down in the middle of the ring. Shelley locked in a Motor City Stretch. White countered it, but Shelley immediately locked the stretch back in.

White crawled to the bottom rope to escape. Shelley hit a step-up enzuigiri, which sent White to the outside. Shelley met him on the outside with a Flatliner, but White sent Shelley head-first into the apron. Back in the ring, White went for the Bladerunner, but Shelley hit it instead and immediately followed with a Motor City Stretch. White escaped and hit his own Bladerunner for the win. Hannifan and Rehwoldt got off their seats and applaud. After the match, White refused to shake Shelley’s hand. I AM SPEECHLESS…

Meanwhile, backstage…

Violent By Design cut a promo on how VBD were standing in the shadows and plotting against the Good Brothers.

  • Deonna Purrazzo “Champ Champ” Challenge

Chelsea Green seized the opportunity and wanted a match for the ROH gold. Chelsea and Deonna looked to gain the upper hand but they hit a stalemate. They continued to counter each other’s moves. Chelsea eventually took Deonna down with a big Armdrag sending the champion out of the ring. Chelsea then dived through the middle rope to take out Deonna. Back in the ring, Deonna managed to gain her own advantage as she viciously assaulted Chelsea Green.

Deonna then sent Chelsea crashing down with a clothesline. Deonna hit a Leg Sweep and locked Chelsea in an armbar. Deonna was in control but Chelsea fought back and landed a Sunset Flip from the top turnbuckle. They traded pinfalls until Deonna locked in the armbar once again. Chelsea rolled through and they both collided in the middle of the ring. Chelsea Green was now fired up and delivered a dropkick to Deonna. Chelsea then stomped Deonna face-first in the corner of the ring. Deonna managed to get her foot on the bottom rope as Chelsea went for the pinfall.

Chelsea planted Deonna face-first into the canvas. She went to the top turnbuckle, but Deonna turned Green inside out, and then went straight back to the armbar. Chelsea reversed it and locked in her own armbar. Deonna eventually grabbed the bottom rope. Deonna then hit a nice move on that left wrist of Green, as the referee threw the X sign. Deonna checked on her, but Chelsea responded with a strike to the face. Deonna locked in the Venus de Milo again as the referee stopped the match, but the Champion refused to let go. A TRUE VIRTUOSA.

  • IMPACT Knockouts Championship Match: Mickie James (c) vs Tasha Steelz

Mickie came down at the end of the previous match all upset because her friend got hurt, then Tasha Steelz made her entrance. Tasha hit a blow to Mickie James before the match even got underway. When the bell did ring, Chelsea was still getting medical attention from Dr Ross at ringside and Mickie responded by taking down Steelz and delivering multiple strikes to her in the corner of the ring. Mickie was keeping her eye on Chelsea Green. Mickie locked in a single-leg Boston Crab as she looked to submit Tasha. Savannah Evans then set her sights on Chelsea, but Mickie headed out of the ring to protect her. Tasha then dived onto the outside to take the champion out and sent Mickie into the steel steps. Tasha sent her back into the ring and hit a number of strikes on Mickie as she laid out on the canvas. Mickie tried to rally, but Tasha sent her down with a kick to the face. Steelz then went to work on Mickie in the corner, but she again tried to respond. Tasha sent her boot to the throat of Mickie in the corner of the ring.

Tasha locked in the Camel Clutch in the centre of the ring. Mickie replied with a Stunner to send Tasha into the corner of the ring. Tasha responded immediately before Mickie hit a number of blows to the head of the challenger from the top turnbuckle. Tasha then forced Mickie to lose her balance on the top turnbuckle, as both then fell onto the outside. Back in the ring, they traded blows in the middle of the ring before Mickie ultimately took her down. Mickie was now fired up and eventually landed the Mick-DT, but Savannah entered the ring. Mickie went after her but the referee pulled her away. Savannah went for the big boot, but Mickie countered and hit a spinning kick to send her out of the ring. Tasha then hit the Blackout, then went to use Mickie’s finisher, but the Champion countered and took the top turnbuckle. Mickie then had to fend off Savannah once again, but as Mickie jumped from the top rope, Tasha caught her with the cutter for the win. EVIL… NEXT MATCH, PLEASE.

  • IMPACT World Tag Team Championship Match: The Good Brothers (c) vs Violent By Design

Chris Bey and Deaner were at ringside. Eric Young and Karl Anderson started things off. Young immediately threw Anderson down to the canvas and locked him in an armbar. Anderson responded with an Armdrag as he followed by locking Eric Young in an Armbar of his own. Gallows and Doering were then tagged in as the big men collided. Doering gained the early advantage, striking Gallows before sending him into the corner of the ring. Gallows then responded as he tried a shoulder tackle. They both then went for a shoulder tackle, but Gallows instead took Doering out with a big boot.

Gallows trapped Doering in a headlock in the centre of the ring. Gallows sent Doering into the corner, but Doering bounced off the corner of the ring and knocked Gallows off his feet. Anderson and Eric Young were then tagged back in. Anderson sent Young down with a shoulder charge. Anderson hit a Fisherman Buster to the back of Young’s neck. Doering was then tagged back in and he immediately took Anderson down. Young then tagged back in and hit an elbow drop to Anderson. Gallows tagged back in as he took out Young and Doering. The Good Brothers worked together to hit a neckbreaker.

Gallows went flying out of the ring as he tried to finish off Eric Young. Doering and Eric Young then worked together. Young then hit a Suplex on Anderson. Gallows returned and assisted Karl Anderson in delivering a double Superplex. Doering and Anderson were now the legal men. They traded blows before Anderson hit a spinebuster, but Doering got back on his feet and struck Anderson with a clothesline. Young and Gallows fought on the entrance, Young hit a NutCracker, then a Piledriver on Gallows. A powerbomb by Doering into a neckbreaker by Young in the middle of the ring gave them the win.

  • IMPACT World Championship Match: Moose (c) vs. Heath

Anthony Carelli joined the commentary team. Moose talked some trash, Heath replied with some punches. Moose drove Heath into the corner and put that to a stop. Moose threw Heath across the ring. Hard whip into the turnbuckle. Moose once again threw Heath across the ring. Moose tore Heath’s shirt in the corner for the chop, but Heath fought back. Outside the ring, Heath walked into a kick. Moose sends Heath headfirst into the turnbuckle, then worked him over some more.

Moose broke the ten-count and rolled Heath back into the ring. He targeted Heath’s left hand, then the right hand. Then the right ankle, then Heath got chopped down. Then the head. Abdominal stretch by Moose, with elbows to the ribs. Heath bit Moose’s hand to break it up and got punched down. Outside the ring, Heath got driven into the apron twice. Heath finally fought back a bit, then hit a springboard crossbody to the floor. He hit the Wake-Up Call but Moose fought back with a uranage and the Lights-Out Spear. DAMN.

Wait, wait…

As Moose was celebrating, Josh Alexander entered the ring and hit Moose with a huge C4. He then grabbed a microphone and said the last time he was in this ring he was sent home by Scott D’Amore. Josh said he won’t agree that his emotions were the problem. Josh said Scott was right to send him home. He got to spend time with his family and recharge but sending him home put him a mile from Anthem’s offices. Josh Alexander revealed he’s signed a new multi-year contract with IMPACT Wrestling. Josh also had a contract for the main event of Rebellion which stated it will be Moose vs. Josh Alexander for the IMPACT World Championship.

To be eNYGMAtic…

You know I keep my opinions till the end now, so let’s dissect this show. Once again, the Countdown matches were good. The X-Division stole the show right off the bat and it was not a surprise. Eddie vs Rhino turned into a big brawl and gave Maclin a place to turn heel again, not a surprise too. Madison broke a record in becoming the first-ever 3-time Knockouts Tag Team Champion. PCO vs JONAH was a brilliant bout but there was a DQ… Shelley vs White was a masterclass of wrestling, almost perfect. Deonna Purrazzo is turning into a lunatic fringe and I love it. Tasha as Knockouts Champion was unexpected. I was not surprised to see Violent By Design win the titles as The Good Brothers will have a lot to deal with soon, think Guerillas of Destiny. And Moose stood tall, once again. Don’t tell me one of you swallowed the “departure” of Josh Alexander… It was one hell of a work, of course. The title of the review was related to Sacrifice, of course, but we can say there was a bunch of Hannibal Lecter in the ring…
All in all, it was three great hours of wrestling. Two weeks after No Surrender, I was afraid the show would be too similar or lack quality. In fact, Sacrifice was better. We can now quietly take the Road to Rebellion, a 7-week journey to mayhem. We will stop in Dallas in 4 weeks but for the fun more than for the challenge. That should be a fun but unpredictable journey.
For the moment, let’s take the road to a new episode on Thursday night. Will I be there? Probably…
