WARNING: STRONG VIOLENCE AND LANGUAGE AHEAD
Welcome back to DMDU and to another special show from the land down under. After an initial re-scheduling, it was time to hit the Palais and deliver a hard-hitting clash of ideals, blood, and every other implement you could imagine. There were a whole host of matches that promised a whole load of violence, gore, and horror with others promising to be stiff as all hell. Amongst the wreckage, we’d see Mad Dog vs Vixsin in a no-rope barbed-wire horror show, Will Walker vs Joel Bateman III: The Surf City Deathmatch, Big Deathmatch Energy vs Anti-Deathmatch Party, the first DMDU outing for the Blackroach Reserve and so much more leading to the first main event title defence for the DMDU Heavyweight champion as his greatest nemesis Edward Dusk finally came to claim what was his. There is so much to get through so, let’s waste no more time and jump into the action.
No-rope Barbed Wire: Vixsin defeated Mad Dog via Wired Drop
Today’s extravaganza started in style with an old favourite, the no-rope barbed wire match. It would be two Australian deathmatch icons in a ring of barbed-wire being let loose on each other. What was not to love? We’ve seen the pair have wars in the past and now it was time for another bloody chapter. The wire was broken in seconds as the pair started fast and Mad Dog fell to the floor through a section. Another strand snapped soon after as Vixsin took a spill into the wire and the subsequent section got broken by a leg drop. The wire was taking just as much damage as the wrestlers. It was just bomb after bomb after bomb as the pair kept launching each other into the wire, continuously trying to one-up each other for the worst landing. Even the chain wrestling and counters led to more time in the wire. They were both determined to make the most of the stipulation. This wasn’t enough for Mad Dog who cut away more of the wire but this backfired as Vixsin suplexed him onto his weapon. Even then they both kept kicking and colliding with the wire. It was getting uncomfortable fast. Mad Dog almost scored big with a wired Discus Lariat but it wasn’t quite enough. To up the ante, he then kamikazed himself through a door, taking more wire to Vixsin in the process. By the closing stretch, they were both wrapped in wire and just finding a way to keep the other down. The wire had tied them together and all it took was for Vixsin to fall and Mad Dog was trapped for the pin. They had fought like hell in a brutal as fuck opener. This had all the hallmarks of the old-school wired hell with some newer school Tangled Web vibes. It was fun as hell to watch and once again proves the veterans still got it.
Misspent Youth (Aysha & Murdoch) defeated The Blackroach Reserve (Xavier Black & Scotty Roach) via Stomping Package Piledriver on Roach
Next up was some non-title action for Misspent Youth. The tag champs were still fighting but there was a bit less pressure as the titles weren’t at risk. Their opponents, the Blackroach Reserve, were still going to give them hell as it was their tag team debut for the company. Xavier Black and Scotty Roach could really make a statement here. This was a pretty sick affair actually. Black and Roach got rocked at the start by the high flying and striking of Aysha and Murdoch but all it took was a cock shot to Murdoch to get things swinging their way. When they had him trapped, they did everything in their power to wear him down and try to break him. Ya Boi wouldn’t quit and eventually got the escape he needed to Aysha, blowing the match wide open. There were near-falls from both and great displays of tag wrestling all-round. I couldn’t help but feel sorry for Jay Stevens as they got it from both sides for trying to do their job properly. With Misspent Youth at their mercy, the Blackroach Reserve fuelled up on bourbon for a mist attack but as is often the case, the mist missed and cost them the match. it was a strong first showing but it wasn’t quite enough for them to best the tag champs. I would love to see more of this unit though as they found a rhythm and strike me as villains that just love to hit hard. That is always going to be interesting to me.
Terry Shaw vs Tom Barrett ended in no contest
This was a shame. Now, no show is safe when a pissed-off GORE is roaming loose but he could have at least given Barrett a few more seconds to get the win. For reference, Tom Barrett was set to face Terry Shaw and after tanking an opening flurry, Barrett was kicking the shit out of him. Cue an opponent-less GORE and an unbridled shit-kicking to both, resulting in a no contest and GORE taking to a mic. With York unable to make the show, he was bored and wanted a fight. Someone had better give him one, it is unwise to disappoint the Snuff King….
Chanel Phoenix vs GORE goes to double count-out
In York’s place came a former foe looking to move up the card, the badass Chanel Phoenix. She’d tangled with GORE before and knew the score, now it was time to see if she could even out her record against him. Phoenix had found a new killer edge since their last encounter; it was time to put it into effect against the loud and cocky Snuff Daddy. What followed was an MMA-infused battle of the brick shithouses. It was very technical, very physical, and full of GORE being the most obnoxious twat he could be. However, his words of torment just powered Phoenix up and pushed her to not only level the Snuff King but throw him around like nothing. The ring couldn’t contain this one and the duo just brawled around the ring, occasionally jumping back in to break the count. Eventually, though, they got too far away and too engrossed in their beatings to pay attention and both got counted out. As expected, GORE was livid and attacked the ref and anyone that came to halt his rampage. Once she’d recovered a bit, Phoenix jumped back into the action and the pair had to be dragged away, damaging the property as they tried to rip each other apart
Ryan Rapid defeated Kid Valiant, Mike Kaos, Charli Rose, Rochelle Rogue & Jordan Samson via Go to Sleep on Rose
It was scramble time. We had six hungry competitors going to war to continue the chaos, Phoenix and GORE had just unleashed. It would be the Avant-Garde Charli Rose, the Pirate Warrior Rochelle Rogue, the Annihilator Jordan Samson, Slim Reaper Mike Kaos, Kid Valliant, and Ryan Rapid all colliding in a battle for supremacy. Things were sure to get manic in the ring. Yeah, this was a roller coaster of carnage. It began with the world vs Samson and just kept escalating as more people got involved and tried to take the victory. Valiant was acting like cocky shit to Rose so they knocked his head in and Rochelle Rogue did the same. Samson got more hoss power in, Kaos was firing on all cylinders and Rapid lived up to his name with another host of aerial extremes. It was another scramble that brought out the best of everyone and gave us all a good show too. I do love a good clash of styles and this one had a nice mix of high-flyers, hard strikers, and raw power. Rapid continues his win streak within DMDU, scoring a solo victory and upping himself in the rankings. DMDU will always be competitive and its always great to see the scrambles reflect that.
Shazza McKenzie defeated JXT via Shazz-Tatic Roll-up
Now we continue the most dramatic storyline in DMDU, the ever-escalating implosion of ShazzXT. JXT and Shazza McKenzie fell out during the rumble and since then JXT has taken it personally and claimed to be the biggest deal of their team. Their first match was a competitive bout that was won by JXT but only because he cheated to do so. Now, McKenzie was taking his plight seriously and was out to kill him. This was a fucking epic. McKenzie attacked JXT instantly, setting the tone for an ultra-aggressive battle of attrition. The knowledge these two have of each other led to a continuous slew of counters and clever tactics as the pair took their vitriol to new levels. We had both fighters bringing out the big guns, hitting hard, almost submitting the other, and even a bit of mirror magic as they bust out the other’s moves. McKenzie was expecting JXT to cheat and he didn’t disappoint, trying to bring a chair into play again and getting rolled up for it. That capped off one of the nastiest fights of the night as these two really took each other to the limit. We had the greatest hits and misses of both as this ultra-personal tale of envy ramped up once again. JXT was far from pleased with the loss and sent Shazza off to the states with a black eye, jumping her post-match and landing a Pedigree on the chair that had cost him. We know that this is far from over but now, JXT is going to have to stew in defeat whilst Shazza is away. Something tells me it’s going to get worse before it’s over for good.
Four-on-Three Handicap: Anti-Deathmatch Party (Loverboy Lochy Hendricks, Mr Wrestling Mitchell Wright, Caity Luxe & Hector Jones) defeated Big Deathmatch Energy (Big Dave, Rickie Gilmore & Callen Butcher) via Door Spear on Butcher
Do you know what is a terrible idea? Pissing off not only one of the biggest in terms of sheer size tag teams in DMDU but also pissing off the most dangerous champion in the company. That’s just what the Anti-Deathmatch Party had done. Callen Butcher was seething that the prudes of the company had stolen his title, prevented him from finding partners, and now, with BDE at his side he was going to make them hurt. The Party was going to have to face that Big Deathmatch Energy. Though, they’d come prepared with a numbers advantage so it was still technically in their favour, kneecapping Atlas CC Whittaker before he could join his comrades. I present a match of two halves. The first half was pure catharsis. After their cowardly attack on Whittaker, BDE went straight after the party and the opening foray was the Anti-Deathmatch Party getting their asses kicked. Sadly, all good things come to an end and Rickie Gilmore was singled out for a systematic beatdown by every member of the Party. Say what you want about their tactics, but they can all most certainly wrestle and worked like a well-oiled machine, saving each other and performing some exceptional multi-person chains of offence. It wasn’t permanent though and once the BDE was unleashed, things got way nastier for all involved.
Doors came out and the Cut-Throat felt the sting of one as BDE dumped him with the 3D. Annoyingly, it wasn’t enough to end the match with a win for them as ADMP kept coming back, and just as Butcher had Wright set up for death, the hypocrites struck again as Hendricks clocked the champ with a chair and speared him through a door for the win. Once again, the ADMP came away with a win at the expense of the deathmatch stars but again, they’d stooped to the methods they claimed to hate. Their wrestling was crisp as hell but it does seem that it’s never enough for them to win with that alone. It’s almost like they either have to cheat or use weapons. Hmm… Either way, this new match leaves Hendricks with a win over the Deathmatch Champion. I dread to think what would happen if he could repeat history and “legitimately” hold that title…
Surf City Deathmatch: Will Walker defeated Joel Bateman via The Spectre
Uh oh. Here we go again. Will Walker is a tough motherfucker but holy shit, how many times is he going to let himself die in deathmatches? He’s 0-2 against Joel Bateman and now he’s stepping into the Lion’s Den again with the Smash Hit. It was a surf city deathmatch and Walker was entering to Gwen Stefani, The Main Character clearly had a point to prove. This got very ugly. It started with chain wrestling but that pace didn’t last as Walker got an upper hand and royally pissed off Bateman by getting way too confident way too fast. He tried to get the fans involved but Bateman threatened to stab them if they did. With that aside, they returned to the ring and broke an absolute arse load of tubes. This was ridiculous fun as Walker proved to be unkillable once again, mostly kicking out at one the whole match. Gone was the jovial, energetic Bateman. This was like watching the Terminator wrestle. He was cold, calculating, and methodical, just picking away at Walker and cutting him any way he could. Between the regular tubes and the tubed-up bodyboard, Walker was bathed in glass and bleeding buckets. He gave as good as he got though and made Bateman bleed just as much as he was. Once again, Walker proves he can take a beating but this time, he got the big win too. He kicked out of all of Bateman’s death drops and tapped the Smash Hit out with the Spectre. He’d gone from being the whipping boy to a victor. Sure it had taken a whole load of effort and willpower to get here but now the Main Character can live up to his name. Congrats Walker, you had my respect before but you earned it all over again with this one. Looks like you earned Bateman’s too. Seems that was just the start though as Walker is coming for that Deathmatch Title now.
DMDU Heavyweight Title: Royce Chambers defeated Edward Dusk via Damn Straight Driver
Last but not least, the main event. This is where the title came from. This wasn’t just a battle for a title. It was a battle of ideals. A battle of wills and wits. Royce Chambers is a brash, athletic, and rightfully arrogant fighter who always seems to excel. He’d manage to win the title and now, he was clashing with his nemesis, a man who was his polar opposite, Edward Dusk. The eternal one has always been on the outside looking in. He has the same skills as Chambers and is one of the most cerebral and cunning wrestlers in Australia. Now, he was striking and taking what he saw as his. This was one of those fights no one could be sure Chambers would survive. This was one hell of a compelling one. Dusk started hot and seemed to have the better of Chambers but as always, The Menace 2 Society found his way into the fight and started wrecking Dusk’s knee. With a hobble, Dusk found it harder to keep on the pressure but wouldn’t go down easily. They both got ended up fighting on the outside and Chambers stole the match with a Moonsault from the balcony, an even more impressive feat considering minutes before he’d been launched through several rows of seats. Even then though, Dusk wasn’t going down. After that stunt, Chambers was also left with a limp and the two wounded warriors continued to beat the shit out of each other. They might have only had one leg each but that wasn’t holding them back. Dusk powered up further once he was split open and Chambers was forced to continue to improvise as he couldn’t stop Dusk coming at him. The resiliency of both was continuously tested as Dusk and Chambers kicked out of finishers and signatures.
In the end, Chambers managed to retain his title with a nasty Damn Straight Driver and left the Palais victorious. It seems like Dusk is going to have to go back to the drawing board. No matter what he does, he can never seem to keep Chambers down. This was the closest he’d come yet but, still, Chambers had the wherewithal to kick out and keep going. He has proven to be a resourceful champ and might have finally shut Dusk up for good. He certainly wasn’t being gracious in victory, then again, he has never claimed to be. That ended another strong showing from DMDU and left us looking forward to what comes next. Especially considering we have a mystery show and Alex Colon to look out for.
