WrestleCon is well and truly underway, and the best Luchadores in the business were on full display. Bandido, Laredo Kid, and Flamita fought for the AAA Cruiserweight Championship, and La Rebelión defended the NWA gold against Aerostar and Drago. Gringo Loco and La Empresa fought Jack Cartwheel, Pagano, and Dragon Kid, Aramis, Mr Iguana, and Octagon Jr battled Arez, Abismo Negro Jr, and Faby Apache, and we got a Lumberjack Match featuring Mini Abismo Negro, Rey Escorpion, La Hiedra, Microman, Taya, and Niño Hamburguesa. The main event saw Taurus and Psycho Clown go at it, but first up, The Natural Classics went toe-to-toe with Ryan Kidd and Christi Jaynes.

The Natural Classics (Tome & Stevie Filip) vs Ryan Kidd & Christi Jaynes

Jaynes started off against Stevie and got in some good offence with a hurricanrana. Kidd came in and held Stevie on the mat as Jaynes dropkicked him in the face. The Natural Classics worked on Kidd, as Stevie hit a German and Tome landed a hanging suplex. Kidd fought back and tagged in Jaynes, but the brothers held her off. Tome booted Kidd as Stevie dropped him to the mat. Jaynes went for a moonsault off the top turnbuckle to Tome outside as Kidd hit a cutter on Stevie. The Natural Classics looked like the better team throughout. The match ended as Stevie hit a Tope Con Hilo to Kidd on the outside, then got back in to hit a powerbomb and backstabber combo for the win. It was a bit messy at times and not the strongest of starts, but Jaynes was impressive despite the loss.

Lumberjack Match: Mini Abismo Negro, Rey Escorpion, & La Hiedra vs Niño Hamburguesa, Microman, & Taya

Despite there being an unnatural flow to the match, there were plenty of big spots from both teams. I’ll never understand the appeal of Microman, but fair play to him for holding his own. He hit an arm drag, hurricanrana, and a dropkick to send Mini Abismo Negro to the outside where the lumberjacks whipped him. Hamburguesa did the same to Escorpion and he got attacked by those surrounding the ring. Taya and La Hiedra were next in the ring. Taya landed an arm drag and a standing crossbody, followed by a hip attack and a Meteora. She then sent La Hiedra outside for more whipping. All six got in the ring and began to fight each other. Escorpion picked Microman up and teased a throw to the outside, superkicking him instead. La Hiedra connected with a shotgun dropkick on Hamburguesa. Escorpion threw Microman onto Mini Abismo Negro’s boots. Taya and La Hiedra went at it again as she smacked her ass, then clotheslined Mini Abismo Negro and Escorpion. Microman hit a bulldog on Mini Abismo Negro and Hamburguesa barged him over the ropes. He then hit a standing Vader Bomb on Escorpion and kissed La Hiedra, but got knocked down by Escorpion. Taya hit a spinebuster on La Hiedra as Escorpion dropped Taya with a package piledriver. Hamburguesa was able to slam Escorpion and land a frog splash. He went to hit a double cannonball on Mini Abismo Negro and Escorpion, but Microman went first, followed by the big man. Microman was able to roll up Mini Abismo Negro for the win, but La Empresa and Gringo Loco came out and attacked him. They beat him down and threw him in a trash can, then carried it to the back.

NWA World Tag Team Championship Match: La Rebelión (Mecha Wolf & Bestia 666) (C) W/ Damian 666 vs Aerostar & Drago

This was a much better match, featuring four of the best Luchadores in the business. Drago and Aerostar did a fantastic job of taking out the champs. Despite an impressive spinning DDT from Drago off Aerostar’s shoulders on Mecha Wolf, they took quite a beating. Mecha Wolf slammed Aerostar on Drago as Bestia whipped Aerostar with a belt. Mecha Wolf then clotheslined Drago in the corner and got on his knees, but Drago jumped off his back and connected with a hurricanrana on Bestia. Drago and Aerostar landed double Tope Suicidas on La Rebelión. Back in the ring, Drago hit a cutter on Bestia and a 619 on Mecha Wolf, followed by a tornado off the turnbuckle for a two-count. Mecha Wolf and Bestia 666 were able to pick up the win following a modified Muscle Buster by Bestia. Mecha Wolf hit a powerbomb on Drago, then knocked Aerostar off his feet with a Tope Suicida, allowing Bestia to pin Drago for the victory.

Trios Match: Aramis, Mr Iguana, & Octagon Jr vs Abismo Negro Jr, Arez, & Faby Apache

The start of the match was filled with plenty of high spots including arm drags, hurricanranas, and Enzuigiris. There was a lot of comedy revolving around Mr Iguana’s toy iguana which I just didn’t get. Octagon Jr was impressive as he landed a hurricanrana on Arez while standing on Aramis’ back. He then hit a tornado on Arez and a helicopter head scissors on Abismo Negro Jr. Aramis transitioned from a hurricanrana into an arm drag at lightning speed on Abismo Negro Jr, then hit a Poisonrana on the apron on Arez. Apache superkicked Octagon Jr for a two-count. Octagon Jr then returned the favour with one of his own. Aramis flipped over the ropes onto Apache and Arez, followed by a moonsault from Octagon Jr on everybody. Mr Iguana landed a spinning bulldog on Abismo Negro Jr for the win. It was an insane match filled with plenty of aerial chaos. Props to Octagon Jr who was awesome as always.

No DQ Match: La Empresa (Puma King & Sam Adonis) & Gringo Loco vs Pagano, Dragon Kid, & Jack Cartwheel

It was good to see the two GCW boys in this one. I love Pagano, too. I’m not sure why this was billed as a No DQ match as we only saw them use a chair for one spot. Cartwheel landed some head scissors and a dropkick on Adonis, then a hurricanrana on Gringo. Dragon Kid was awesome as he hit a spinning hurricanrana, a couple of pop-up hurricanranas, and a hundred other versions that made him look like a superhero. He then hit a spinning European uppercut off the ropes onto Adonis. Cartwheel swept Puma King’s legs with a handstand leg sweep on the apron. Pagano landed multiple punches on Puma and followed up with a spinning slam for a two-count. Gringo hit Pagano with a chair as Adonis dropped Kid onto the steps. The heels triple-teamed Dragon Kid, but he was able to fight back and wipe out all three of them. Cartwheel hit a bizarre moonsault that completely missed as Dragon Kid flew onto Puma King with a top turnbuckle super rana. Gringo hit his signature top rope sit-down powerbomb on Dragon Kid, but he kicked out. Kid landed a tornado on Puma King and Adonis as Cartwheel flipped over the ropes and hit them as well. Pagano was able to drop Gringo with a Codebreaker and clothesline for a two-count. He ended the match with an Air Raid Crash for the win.

AAA Cruiserweight Championship Triple Threat Match: Laredo Kid (C) vs Bandido vs Flamita

This was by far the match of the show. All three used pinpoint precision in everything they did, showcasing just why they’re three of the best to ever do it. Flamita had a great run in the early stages as he DDT’d Bandido and landed a moonsault to Laredo Kid outside. He got back in the ring and connected with a frog splash to Bandido to get a two-count. Laredo Kid got in some great offence with a spinning DDT on Flamita and then a tornado to both opponents outside. He hit a 450 on Flamita and Bandido back in the ring. Flamita went from a moonsault into a double DDT, then powerbombed Laredo Kid. Kid managed to retain after a Spanish Fly from the top turnbuckle on Flamita. I could have watched this match for much longer, especially when other matches were given far too much time.

Taurus vs Psycho Clown

The main event of the evening was pretty good, but it was a tough one to follow such a superb triple threat match. Psycho Clown hit an arm drag and a spinning slam, then landed a moonsault to the outside. Back in the ring, he took the wind out of Taurus with a running knee into the corner. Taurus connected with a pop-up Samoan drop for a two-count. Clown got back into it with a Code Red and a tornado to Taurus on the outside. Psycho Clown then hit another Code Red, but Taurus fought back and delivered two backbreakers and a spinning lariat. He grabbed a table and set it up against the turnbuckle. Psycho Clown grabbed his belt and whipped Taurus with it, hit a super rana, and speared him through the table to pick up the win. After the match, La Empresa, Gringo Loco, and Jeff and Karen Jarrett hit the ring. They beat down Psycho Clown and ripped his mask off. Jeff said that the king and queen are back in AAA as they continued to run roughshod in the ring. That was a bit of a surprise ending. I wonder how that affects things going forward, especially with the first TripleMania happening at the end of April.
