The Australian Hybrid Deathmatch Company, Deathmatch Downunder, will be making Australian Wrestling history at their June 18th event, The Great Emu War Games.
Through a press release released by the company, they aim to celebrate the legacy of Australian professional wrestling and the cultural fabric of Melbourne’s live arts and entertainment scene in 2022 by hosting the first-ever Australian War Games match.
Making up this historic match is the hottest rivalry in the company between the stars of the deathmatch division and the staunchly opposed side, The Anti-Deathmatch Party. Both sides have been feuding since the company’s inception eighteen months ago and will be settling the score within the two-ringed steel cage.
On team deathmatch, Australian Deathmatch Champion Callen Butcher, “The Smash Hit” Joel Bateman, “Australia’s Most Violent Man” Damian Rivers, “Hardcore Icon” Mad Dog, and the return of Lobo, another Australian deathmatch legend. They take on the full might of the Anti-Deathmatch Party, “Loverboy” Lochy Hendricks, “Mr. Wrestling” Mitchell Wright, “Cut-Throat” Hector Jones, and Caity Luxe.
Alongside that, the show boasts a card full of DMDU favourites and new faces alike. The match list goes as follows:
- DMDU Heavyweight Title: GORE vs Kid Valiant
- DMDU Tag Team Title Street Fight: Misspent Youth (Aysha & Murdoch) vs Big Dude Energy (Big Dave & Rickie Gilmore)
- Matt Hayter vs Tarlee
- More To be announced
Australian wrestling legend Lobo spoke on why he decided to return to wrestling for War Games: “I get a chance to share the ring with people I respect, I get the honour of one last chance to swing for the fences, but more importantly I have the privilege for one last time to be part of this magical thing we call wrestling.”
The company had plenty of praise for Team Deathmatch, “These performers represent the past, present, and future of deathmatch wrestling’s rich story in Australia. Mad Dog and Lobo paved the way in their landmark 2002 ‘No-Rope Barbed Wire, Taipei, 40,000 Raining Thumbtack Deathmatch, while Bateman, Rivers, and Butcher have put Australian deathmatch on the map in this modern wrestling renaissance.”
